  • Hamza Yusuf-Thoughts on the Science Delusion
     OP - September 01, 2009, 08:03 AM

Anyone seen this? I saw it just after the "God Dellusion" was published. It sounded so apologetic back then. Now it just looks silly.

I saw this. I don't remember if I watched it when I was Muslim.  But I saw it post-Islam and realised how arrogant and really even ignorant Hamza can be.  they call kafirs arrogant, and yet when they pontificate like this, wagging their fingers at those who dare not believe in invisible super beings, they come off as so, so arrogant and don't even realise it.

There was an interesting comment on Dawkin's website when this was posted from an ex-Zaytunite who has left Islam.   dance

Yep, checked it out. There are already comments on this video on Richard Dawkins site.

"He is an American (real name Mark Hanson) who converted to Islam and took a fake Islamic name. Sounds more impressive doesn't it, Shaykh Hamza Yusuf, than Mark Hanson? Does any psychologist or sociologist know if it is a standard thing people do, if they are too inadequate to make a success of themselves in their own culture -- change your identity and re-invent yourself, to see if people take you more seriously? It is very believable that somebody as palpably stupid as this would not make a name for himself as an ordinary American called Mark Hanson. But as Shaykh Hamza Yusuf, The Guardian describes him as "arguably the west's most influential Islamic scholar" and he is said to advise Bush on Islamic matters."

    Hahaha. Dawnkins is pissed!

    "ex-Zaytunite" what is an ex-zaytunite?

"Ask the slave girl; she will tell you the truth.' So the Apostle called Burayra to ask her. Ali got up and gave her a violent beating first, saying, 'Tell the Apostle the truth.'"

Ex-Zaytuni / Zaytunite is someone who was a part of the Zaytuna Institute or who was otherwise part of that band of merry Muslims  Roll Eyes who were hardcore followers and students of Hamza Yusuf.

I wonder if any Ex-Zaytunites ever approach people like Hamza Yusuf and Zaid Shakir to seek some sort of counselling before apostating? It would be interesting to find out from these people what HY and ZS say to them. Then again maybe they just quietly apostate and leave Zaytuna.

I'm going to ask around and see what I can find out, if anything.  I'd also be interested in knowing what sort of wiz-dumb these two guys try to pass along to people in that situation.

Well, when I was in that situation, Hamza never responded to my emails. I did get a reply back from Zaid though. At that time I was putting the questions into my uncle's mouth. He just replied back saying that the questions can be answered and that my uncle was a kafir. No attempt to answer the questions though. The closest I have come to in having my questions answered is by AHM, Nuh Keller and Musa Furber. But once you have exhausted these guys then looking elsewhere is a waste of time.

Well, it wasn't an adhom - it was a observation based on a pattern of behaviour by others who have done similar things.
