  • Hey
     OP - September 18, 2009, 08:44 PM

I'm not an ex-Muslim, rather an ex-Atheist. I've been around the internet a bit, and decided to check this forum out after a topic in the MPAC UK forum (as I'm sure some of you probably already know about, and if you do see or post at that forum, you might recognise the name) between Muzzylogic and Softly Spoken.

Seeing as this community is a lot more open, I expect my stint here will be longer than the English Defence League forum which thought I was some strange conspirator.

I've never heard of the EDL.

EDL are the wankers going around starting trouble at mosques. Basically they are BNP supporters.

    Thanks for the welcome.

I'm now a Muslim, hehe. I thought I'd save that for my second post. I do recognise you Hassan for the MPAC forum, although admittedly I did poke my head in here once or twice before I registered so I knew your connection :p

The EDL forum experience was unique, got banned once because they believed I was part of a group trying to shut them down, then the administrator apologised and said he'd help me out, then a day later before I even made another post I was banned with the message "Haha we've got two more of you now". Very strange place.

I guess I should go a little into my background, English lad, Church of England Primary school, never baptised, confused religious beliefs during youth, upset during my teens being a National Front and BNP supporter, realised I was a dork and moderated my views, then later became Muslim. Bit of a roundabout life I guess.

I live in Wiltshire, UK where I was born and grew up, pretty much the most least-Muslim populated county in England.

May I ask what motivated you to become a Muslim?
    What were the selling points?

I too want to know, as I'm sure many others do.

I'm interested to know what steps you took from being an atheist to becoming a muslim? I think there are some steps inbetween these two ends of the spectrum. Please enlighten us?

I remember you Mikebloke, good to hear from you again. I used to like your sensible posts on MPAC, though that site has gone completely mad recently, and anti-semetic. As someone who made the opposite journey to you, I would be interested to hear about what attracted you to Islam. And what keeps you in it - if that is a topic you are happy to discuss.

Welcome to the forum. I'm Softly Spoken / Dr Diavolo on MPACUK. Looking forward to some interesting discussions.

I'm interested in reading your future posts and especially about your journey from Atheism to Islam. I hope it's not filled with personal/emotional reasons--much like Jeffery Lang. Instead I hope to see some concrete scientific reasons that persuaded you to choose Islam.

Jeffrey Lang! Wow now that's a name from the past. I read all three of his books when I was a muslim. I wonder whatever happened to him? He was on the lecture circuit back in the early nineties.

EDIT: Meant to say from bnp into islam,

I never read any of his books, but did watch a lot of his interviews and lectures on You Tube. I got the gist of his reason for conversion based on those interviews and lectures. All in all though, I like Lang. I think he's part of the solution, not the problem. He is one of those 'reform minded Muslims' and takes the Quran metaphorically. Can't go wrong with someone who publicly states he believes in Evolution, and takes the story of Adam and Eve metaphorically  Afro

I think he does keep himself to himself nowadays and has stopped the lecture circuit. I'd be surprised if he was still muslim. He was struggling with religion back then!
  • Re: Hey
     Reply #28 - September 21, 2009, 06:29 PM

Yeah I think he may have left Islam. He had a lot of Muslim critics that accused him of Islamic reformation, and it's easy to imagine how that may have been like. I think he's a closet apostate, and probably will never come out. The reason why I say that is because he has gone pretty worldwide with his conversion. But then again, I hope I'm wrong and he does come out in public about his apostasy. Who knows.

If he does come out then maybe people will stop posting youtube clips saying "Atheist converts to islam!"
