On a serious not guys, I've just started listening to a lecture on comparative religion and there is something that the lecturer says which might be a lesson for us as skeptics and unbelievers. You can correct me if you like, but we should when looking at religions avoid making value judgements or statements especially when looking at the phenomenon from the outside, because at some level we do bring in some subjectivity.

So for example muslims would say something like:-

"Allah says in the Quran"

An orientalist would say something like:-

"Muhammad says in the Quran"

Rather we should say:-

"The Quran says"

The first two are fairly easy traps to fall into and obviously reflect a certain bias. The third statement tries to be a bit more objective I think.

Same here, I lost interest in Religion too. But I come here because I sort of like many of the members here. They seem a nice people to hang around (online at least). Especially Os and IsLame, I like their sense of ~~hummus~~ humor!

The same reason why arguing about the existence of God with a Muslim is a waste of time; you're better off attacking the doctrine, inconsistencies. The only problem with that method is if the person is so brain washed that no matter what you say to the person - its not going to matter a single iota.

I think you can argue about the existence of God with a muslim and at least cast some doubt. Once that is in place they can go off and do their own investigations. You can couple this with arguing about Islam, but be advised all the inconsistencies and contradictions in the sources will be seen as approved because they have already made the assumption that Muhammad is a Prophet rather than looking at it the other way. They need to be encouraged to look at the life and actions first without any assumptions and then coming to a conclusion.

That still can go under "Athiest", I believe. Because, you may choose Scientology only if you're both Rich and Insane. So if you're rich but sane, or poor and insane, or poor and sane you are advised to be an Athiest.

If you are Rich & Insane you know what to pick.
Anything else, you an atheist:

Rich and sane. -> atheist
Poor and sane. -> Atheist
Poor and insane. -> Atheist but unlikely, since u will probably prefer monotheism.

There is something else as well when it comes to looking at religion through a certain lense. Religion as a phenomenon really began to be studied from the outside around the sixteenth century, that is to say outside of theology and seeing it more as a natural phenomenon. But it brings one problem with it though, and that is seeing it through the lens of reductionism. So for someone like Karl Marx, he saw it as purely economic and Emile Durkheim sees it as purely social. It really should be seen through a whole range of lenses in order to get a thorough picture.
