    Hi All

I have heard that the march against Islam4uk was a huge success and anjem and his boys cancelled and fled. Shame on the dickheads. CEMB Members were there too.

The British Muslims for Secular Democracy are billing it as:

"The Day the Taliban Fled"  Afro

It was a great success, I met some really nice guys from BMSD - Douglas Murray was there and so was Peter Tatchell and others - lots of press (I'm at internet cafe and gotta go soon - can anyone find pics and what's been posted on blogs and stuff - I know spitoon and harrey's place were there as well as national papers etc...)

EDL were there in small numbers but lots of big flags - but they behaved themselves - though I remain deeply suspicious of them.

All-in-all it was a good day and hopefully a powerful message.

The title of this thread is apt, as it seems like a win against another form of extremism, the EDL/BNP lot.

They would have seen Muslims in greater numbers than them, protesting against the Shariah movement - and that for me is an even bigger win (as the shariah lot were going nowhere to begin with!)

    Quote
The radical Islamist cult Islam4UK, called a demonstration for the abolition of democracy and the imposition of Sharia law in the UK, to be held today. Rumours about Islam4UK?s cancellation of their demo had been circulating since yesterday but were dismissed by the BMSD as just more of the usual tactical disinformation from Anjem?s camp. However by this morning it was official: Islam4UK had withdrawn from their own protest!

The British Muslims for Secular Democracy (BMSD) carried on, in spite of the Islam4UK?s retreat. In the absence of Choudhary?s goon-squad, it was only the BMSD and the English Democrats who showed up. As the afternoon progressed, the BMSD presence soon transformed from a counter-demo into the protest against Islamist extremism and Al-Muhajiroun. And of course, a celebration of democracy, pluralism and secularism at the foot of Eros, in Picadilly Circus.

At the risk of self-aggrandisement, it is worth noting that if all it takes for Anjem Choudhary and his band of Islamist thugs to beat a hasty and cowardly retreat, is a joyful demonstration by a small group of peaceable, sane Muslim liberals, I doubt we will be seeing Islamist extremism succeed in the UK anytime soon. And all we did was hold placards which parodied and mocked them.

It has been a great day for British Muslims, for liberal democracy and for pluralism.

Excellent result. However I would urge people not to rest on their laurels. We need to be convincing more moderate muslims , and secularists from all walks to continue the pressure and to put these fools up for the ridicule they deserve. And even if ISLAM4UK and their ilk were to slink away never to be heard of , the show still goes on to demonstrate to the likes of the EDL and to the folks more disposed to gullibility who believe every cliche about muslims ( or atheists for that matter ) that their viewpoint is skewed and simply wrong.
I wasn't in London for this one , I'm working abroad right now , but if there is anything planned after this week I would happily attend.

One hilarious moment was when we heard horns blaring & lights flashing from the road leading to Piccadilly Circus. We moved to the railings & the Press turned towards the ominous noise.

We saw a huge procession coming towards us flanked by police. Mockingly I remarked that Anjem has turned up after all, someone added he'd brought a Tank. We stared with intense curiosity.

Finally we saw a hundred bikers (some in Halloween Masks) and a placard protesting Parking Zones. Roars of laughter went up and then cheers then much waving and thumbs up.

It was that kind of a day!

Am I the only one who imagined these two happy chicks looking at each other getting caught up in the euphoria of the protest and spontaneously making out in front of everyone? And the chubby cheeked guy's (behind them) jaw dropping and slobbering while sayin "Oh, yeahhhh...that's right" Or do I just have an overactive imagination?

Here's how the EDL reported it:

"Last night, without our knowledge, Islam4UK cancelled their march through London and we were left with a technical victory today. As the day went on people started leaving/moving to other places in London. We heard that the EDL were down the road singing anti German songs and singing songs with messages basically saying that the people of Dresden deserved what they got in the Dresden bombings. About 15 of us that was left went down there and got ourselves and pint and had a conversation with some of the EDL. The youth were there, including their leader Joel, and the older lot were there too. Somehow, something kicked off about the EDL being pro zionists and supporting Jews, and we opposed it, we were all outside and they started chanting "C18 Nazis". We 15 ended up kicking off with about 50 - 60 EDL, who were throwing fire extinguishers, pint glasses, bottles, and various other things. We stood our ground to a point but had to disperse. After getting away through Trafalger Square we heard screams and looked around. One of our C18 brothers had been smashed around the back of the head and had fallen flat out on the road unconscious, drowning in a pool of blood. 10 minutes later coming back to the scene, he was still laying there and was cordened off with police tape."

400, pretty large numbers so fair play to everybody who turned up. Shame that the C18 and Blood & Honour lot had to kick off at the end. I've no problem with the Nazi crowd appearing to protest things like this, in fact it's good they did because it seems they boosted the numbers protesting at it for a while and it's nice to see various groups putting their differences aside to protest against Choudary. Why the hell couldn't the Nazis have just pissed off home though instead of trying to kick off with the EDL who went down. Bunch of idiots. "

I think that report was written by a member of Stormfront rather than the EDL. From what I have heard it wasn't so dramatic, just a handful of Combat 18 members roughed up by a few EDL guys who then chased them through Trafalgar Square. The Combat 18 group had followed them to a pub and  ambushed  them as they came out.

It would appear that Choudary held his "exciting roadshow" and made a vile speech about British troops.I have always said the March for Sharia was one big hoax.It enabled him to keep a high profile in the media during the run-up to his hate speech. If he hadn't been in the news his hate speech might have got little media attention. He is a clever man who knows how to manipulate the media.
  • Re: Victory against Extremism
     Reply #24 - November 01, 2009, 11:35 PM

Stormfront is a pretty broadbased (i.e. international) web-forum and the EDL has refused to exclude "those who think all Muslims are extremists"

Their consensus is that it will split their ranks and they will lose membership.

So C18, BNP etc can be EDL members but the EDL publicly state they are not BNP C18 etc as they are not direct affiliates.

No idea what they are talking about - they must have turned up to a different planet to demonstrate.

The handful (around 15) of EDL guys who turned up at Piccadilly Circus were well behaved I'm glad to say - though they did look like they had all just left the local pub after a football match.

In the second picture of the guy holding up the sign saying "Secular Democracy for the United Kingdom" The girl I'm standing next to at the back on the left of that pic was a really interesting character. When we started talking I immediately noticed she had a strong Irish accent and so assumed she was from an Christian background and just came to support us. As the conversation went on it turned out she was an Iraqi Muslim born in Iraq but raised in Ireland. She was very proud to be a Muslim and very angry that Anjem and his idiots want to impose their narrow brand of Islam. I was so impressed by her and it really made me think about the many Muslims like her who have their own personal understanding of their faith.

What right do fundamentalists like Anjem or even those FFI/jihadchat type bigots - to impose their view of Islam on her - or take away her right to interpret her faith for herself!

They would argue that they have the right because they are following the true Islam - and they have a point that can be backed up by countless boring sura's and hadiths. I know what you mean though. The thing is, these people are often so nice and sensible, it just makes me wonder why they believe ANY of the bullshit. I feel it kind of lets them down - why not just be an all round nice person without the a compromising belief system?

    From: http://seculardemocracy.org/press06.html

    Press Release

    Muslim democrats triumph over Islam4UK

    LONDON, Monday, 2nd November 2009
This Saturday British Muslims for Secular Democracy (bmsd) and our supporters reclaimed London streets and their religion from the anti-democratic and extremist message of Anjem Choudary's Islam4UK.

We were supported by many friends of other faiths and none.

We will all do the same again if the Islam4UK group, or any other front organisation of the extremists of al Muhajiroun, tries to stage another stunt like Saturday?s failed "March for Sharia" from Westminster to Trafalgar Square.

Islam4UK claims that it cancelled its march because it had received threats from far right groups. It may well have, but the bottom line is this: had al Muhajiroun dared to march on the streets of London, they would have been outnumbered to the point of complete humiliation.

The irony and cowardice of al Muhajiroun?s excuse is noteworthy. Al Muhajiroun have repeatedly praised the 9/11 terrorists as "magnificent", yet they wholly failed to muster up the moral courage to square up to the debut challenge by Muslim democrats. They ran scared - terrified by the prospect of an intellectual duel of conflicting viewpoints, in the full glare of the media and the public.

For since we launched our campaign three weeks ago, we have been inundated with messages of support and interview requests not just from the UK, but from places as far afield as Sudan and Australia.

Our satirical YouTube video (http://www.seculardemocracy.org/video.html) - which made it clear that the offensive demands of groups like Islam4UK are only on the fringe - has had 10,000 hits in just five days, in its various versions.

We have had extensive coverage in the blogosphere. For every comment that derides our support for secular democracy and one-law-for-all, there are six voices of encouragement.

On Saturday, Piccadilly Circus was teeming with journalists, bloggers, human rights activists, organisations from different shades of the political spectrum, and followers of a wide variety of religious beliefs and none, including Vaclav Havel, the former Czech President.

British Muslims for Secular Democracy wishes to thank all the individuals and groups who turned out on the day - as well as those who were there in spirit - to proclaim the virtues of liberal democracy. This was a day when everyone set aside their differences and stood shoulder-to-shoulder against the bigots who dream of taking away our freedom and liberty.

If there is to be another day like Saturday, we will be there.

    [End]

    Notes to the editors:

BMSD is made up of a group of Muslim democrats of diverse ethnic and social backgrounds, who support a clear separation between religion and the State.
BMSD?s mission statement: "To promote civic engagement, social inclusion, responsible citizenship and good governance particularly within constituent Muslim communities of Britain; in order to build an understanding of the shared values between all citizens to enable them to live in an inclusive, pluralist, secular and confident Britain."
bmsd claims no mandate or false representative status. Our primary concern is democratic engagement not detailed theological analysis or debate. The level and depth of commitment to the doctrinal core and orthodoxy of the faith varies among Muslims as much as it does in members of other faith groups. bmsd founders wish to create a platform for alternative, diverse Muslim views, essential for a progressive, multi-layered, democratic identity that is not in conflict with itself or fellow citizens.
