Hi I have recently come across your society and had a look at your website. I don't see many muslims interacting with you it would seem sensible to have some dialogue. Do you encourage that

ok well at the outset I would say I am a practicing muslim and I do disagree with a lot of the coments and views I have seen here but i think a lot of it is due to peoples own pet hates and biases. If we can shed a lot of that my experience is that there is often very little seperating people. It is just we hold things so close to our eyes we cant see either them clearly or beyond them

Yes, just hop on board on any thread that takes your interest. And you're right we sometimes paint a worse picture of Islam than is actually the truth, based on the examples of a few bad eggs in the muslim community.

So where are you from/how did you find us/are you a convert or born muslim?

No I don't go out of my to invite others to a discussion on Islam.

I discuss with them if they want to engage in a discussion.

I suppose the majority of people here adopted a non-religious stance, free of faith. Mostly atheism and agnosticism. Also deism and pantheism to a certain extent.

Yep, I think you have covered every possible angle there. I fit into the agnostic humanist category i.e. "no one really knows either way so lets stop pretending that we do" type

well i don't know how really. It depends on what you regard as knowing and how knowledge is accessed. As an agnostic do you feel you are not sure if there is anything over and above the physical.

I am not sure about IsLame, but I am an agnostic too, and I do not believe in the supernatural of any type. But I do not completely disregard the possibility, because if we are not supposed to be able to observe it we would never do. I just can't see evidence and if there's any, I would be glad to change my mind.

so the majority you think are atheist here (a non-religious stance) as agnosticism is not decided and deism and pantheism are inherently religious wouldn't you agree

as i was saying i think it is a question of how you know! an atheist believes in his set of beliefs he cant know them of course. In that sense he is similar to a deist

I dont think that anyone can be sure, thats what I believe. It believe it is possible that extraterrestrial beings exist, but without evidence then I think it is foolish to pretend otherwise.

Agnosticism could be a non-religious stance depending on who you talk to. It is sometimes not a conclusive term in itself and might be divided into agnostic theist or agnostic atheist, or some other variations. And most of the time agnostics reject religions in general.
I am also pretty sure that deists and pantheists reject organized religions and do not have a definite set of beliefs.

i would disagree that one cannot be sure. but obviously it is a different kind of knowledge involved. But i think it is not any less real if one lifts ones head out of the trough of life and uses all our god given faculties

Hopefully you see where I am coming from. No let me set this straight so we can demarcate our beliefs by a line in the sand.

So you are saying you would disagree that one cannot be sure? Can I assume from this that you are 100% sure Allah exists. And by using all our god given faculties then we will all come to the same conclusion?

seems my last thread got lost! Sorry am a newb at this. it would be a truly wicked creator who created some of us without the faculty for spiritual cognition. So yes I beleive we can all have knowledge. Muslims usually recognise varyying levels of knowledge (of God) from a simple faith to surety (yaqin) and everything in between and back and forth.
