I want to join this club, but it seems like there are so many versions of Doctor Who. I wouldn't know where to start. Any suggestions?

The best doctor ever is number 10  001_wub, no ifs ands or buts Tongue

But if you're a noob, start with the 9th doctor whose episodes revived the series in 2005.

    Yummy

If you haven't seen it before, try and find Casanova, the 2005 UK TV series starring Tennant.

Also, he was in the absolutely best film rendition of Hamlet I've ever seen.

He is my favourite too. But I also like the Eighth Doctor, though that is almost entirely books and audio dramas. He is making a comeback with a new look in a new audio drama very soon though. The funny thing is that his look and manner seem like a ½–way house between his original appearance and that of the Ninth Doctor.

From what little clip I've seen of the new girl, I don't think I'm going to like her...she seems too 'normal' Tongue

    yes

I remember refusing to watch the new series for a bit because I felt like Matt Smith was trying to be a Tennant version 2. Luckily he grew out of that and made a character for himself Tongue

Me too. Took me a while to like Matt Smith but I loved him in Season 6 and even Season 5 when I went back to watch it after 6. BUT I didn't like Season 7. Am watching the Xmas special now and not loving it TBH. But he is definitely better the longer he's on the show, he's less of Tennant-lite and more of a distinct Doctor.

I thought she was trying too hard to be 'quirky' in this xmas episode. And even in that one where she was inside a dalek (I recall now) even then I thought there wasn't something quite right about her character... :-/ I think it comes down to her being too normal and trying too hard to be quirky...but we'll see how it plays out over the next few episodes.

-.- I don't mean the good not quite right, quirky that amy had and she managed to make it come across as genuine. Clara is more of a not-right-not-quite-right, she comes across as too normal and trying too hard.

Then go way back and check out John Pertwee. Those cardboard daleks were terrifying.

I actually rather enjoyed that special. Something about the Doctor berating Strax (“Stop trying to be clever…”) really reminded me of Blackadder lambasting Baldrick! Grin

Would love to see a spin–off of Vastra/Jenny/Strax. That might prove promising.

Seriously? I found that episode terribly boring. Especially as a Christmas special, I expected more from it.
