    They don't really have lamb. They eat a lot of chicken and beef, and if you're feeling a bit fancy, goat.

    They do have deer but it is not widely eaten at all.

    The reason I got sick of beef is because everyone was sacrificing bulls for qurbani!

    Deer is really nice; low in fat, 100% taste and great with a plum sauce.

    Yeah it's called "Covert Da'wah"--I'd say it's normal. Prepare to be lectured about how great Islam is, or hear a lot of half-ass stories about Mohammad.

    I doubt it. I've known them for years, gone to the fast breaking in Ramadan in their house and to other parties there. They never talk about religion with me nor with the other non-Muslims that are their friends. Only about... well, "normal" things (I won't say trivial, since many conversations have been very intelligent. just not religion related).

    I was just wondering if that's allowed to bring non-Muslims, I mean, for Eid. I know for fast breaking in Ramadan is, but I had no idea about Eid al-Adha.  It's very different asking you guys that and asking other Muslims, since you have another prespective on the matter.  Smiley

    They know I drink, not to happy about it, but am not going to be with the family for too long am going to go out so less family time

    Yeah its fine, nothing wrong with it, we have non-Muslims coming over to our house for Eid dinner too, some of my dads business friends and from my dads older brothers side.

    It is normal. The majority of Muslims are very generous indeed. I say go and have nice BBQ and meat dishes...

    I'm heading into Uni, packed day. Lying about mass prayer at the Uni so that mum stays calm. A cow will be/has been slaughtered in my name over in Bangladesh, and will feed local poor people, thanks dad!

    They know I don't really believe, but it is too hard for them to take it really. Seriously, lying isn't always a bad thing, I think it is needed in life. Look at Obama, it would be political suicide if he didn't lie and say he is a Christian.

    Eid with my family (and extended ones) is often just plain dull and boring, each and every year.  Roll Eyes Eid is on Saturday here in Pakistan.

    My dad got us 1-2 goats for Fajr time Qurbani, and I think I will have to wake up that early just to say some random prayers in Arabic and witness...OH YES, THERE WILL BE BLOOD!1!!  mysmilie_977 grin12

    Then around 9 AM or so, all the male relatives have to go to the Shia Imambargah around 10 minutes drive away and do the Eid congregation, and then say prayers for our dead relatives in the adjacent graveyard (dead grandparents, dead uncles, dead aunts et al.).

    Yes my family knows I am an atheist now, but they dismiss it as a phase and the Eid namaaz etc I attend mainly NOT to be rude. Other than that, I havent done any other namaaz for almost a year now, much to the annoyance of my religious mother ^_^

    Then we return home, and basically just chat with each other and catch up with relatives, one of my uncles is a very cool secular fellow with a VERY liberal understanding of Shia Islam. Always cool to chat with him.

    Hopefully the food will be tasty, but apart from new clothes etc it will be a boring day.  whistling2

    I just come back from mosque.  The Imams speech (khutba) as always left me feeling very pessimistic.  He was really pushing for more donations to help the brainwashing of kids and propagation of Islam in this country, and coming out with his ridiculous analogies.  AND making the people who didn't slaughter an animal feel really guilty.  Apparently any able bodied financially independent Muslim who didn't slaughter an animal doesn't deserve to be in the Eid prayer (yay, that means I should've stayed in bed!)


    Nevertheless, EID MUBARAK to everyone!  Muslims, non-Muslims, and ex-Muslims.  Afro

    My dua is that all Muslims start to question their religion, reject the impractical/barbaric bits... or better still just leave the religion altogether.  Ameeeen!

    I have a holiday but didn't go to my grandparents' house as other years.

    Usually, in India, I go to my grandparents' house, from there onto another Bohra family's house who have fireworks, & great food. Its fun. In Bangladesh too, I'd go to the homes of people, often very important people with my family, sometimes only my parents would be invited.

    I've noticed this, I don't know if this is true for all Muslim communities, but amongst Bohras & some other Mumbai Muslims, there's a sort of reasonably strict gender segregation on Eid, even if the woman don't otherwise observe purdah.

    Men congregate in one room, women in another, young boys & girls would run between both rooms with food.

    Oh my god what a boring Eid! I can't believe I am home and it is only 20 past 11! I normally go out on Eid evening but this year, no one was up for it!

    Forgot it was Eid til I got home lol. Meh. Boring Eid. My mom made lasagna and turkey though Afro.

    So that's THREE goats I witnessed being slaughtered upon me reading their 'death sentences' after being woken up at Fajr time (but no one asked me to do namaaz lol) and I went back to sleep and was woken up at 9 am to get dressed for Eid namaaz and stuff.
