     OP - December 30, 2009, 06:37 PM

    Hello, everyone!  Smiley

I opened this thread so we could share some movie's suggestions. Cheetah said maybe an old thread existed, but starting fresh can also be good.  Afro
Here we can suggest and maybe even discuss film. It will happen regardless knowing how this forum works - and maybe why I like it here so much.

As a film student I've seem many movies. So it's very hard to come up with suggestions.

for this first post I will suggest "Ghost World". It's a 2001 American movie directed by Terry Zwigoff. It's based on a comic book written by David Clowes who also wrote the movie script which makes it very interesting. The two main characters are played by Thora Birch and a pre-fame Scarlett Johansson. It's basically about two outcast teenagers and a basic coming of age story, but in a very interesting and sometimes bizarre way.

    Imdb movie profiles: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0162346/

It's not a super excelent movie, but it's very good. It's where my quote comes from.  Wink

Ok, looking forward to some suggestions and reviews.

Hard Candy  -  you guys and girls have got to watch it, its got amazing acting and keeps your mind engaged throughout.  The only people I would not recommnend it too are alpha males who are into their gangster movies..

Is it a 2006? I totally missed that one in a festival  Tongue I wanted to see it.... Here it was called Menina m?.com (bad girl dot com, ridiculous...). I thought the title was silly and some friends told me it's very good.

Hard candy is a much better title.

Following on the "Ghost" theme, I recommend "Ghost Dog", however I do not recommend "Ghost Dad" or "Ghost"

    Also--

    Children of Men
    Bad Lieutenant
    Taxi Driver
    Battle of Algiers
    Monument Ave
    Full Metal Jacket
    Revenge of the Nerds
    Problem Child
    Office Space
    Any Romero zombie movie

    Should probably stop now

@IsLame, what is Hard Candy about?

    fuck you

Its a powerfully scripted & acted movie - dont want to give the game away, but it starts with a young photographer having a conversation with a young girl on the internet.  Its shock factor is awesome.

Nearest film I can equate it with is Misery (with James Caan), in fact if you liked that, then your'll love this..

    Off-topic note:
I don't like the terms alpha male and alpha female. There's something about them...

    Movie suggestion:

When Harry Met Sally - I'm going to watch that now, seen it a while before, i remember enjoying it. It's obviously a romantic, it's funny too. It's a 1989 film with Meg Ryan in it.

Why not?  Dont they describe a certain type of man/woman in a much shorter & simpler fashion than it would be possible to do otherwise?

You gotta be kidding, me, right? I liked the movie but it was way longer than it needed to be, and ultimately I think it was just an excuse for Mann to make a slick-looking heist movie with Pacino and DeNiro. A good-looking movie, no doubt, but the plot was dragged out longer than necessary, several played-out plot devices were incorporated, and the dialogue uninspired. Good movie, sure-- but best movie ever made?

Mann's best flick I've seen is "The Insider". Seen that one?

    fuck you

That scene was awesome, and there were lots of great scenes, but the movie overall? Come on, man, wasn't that great. And just the whole thing with DeNiro and the girl where he's doing his "one last big score" so he can run away with her and give up the life of crime, while trying to elude his policeman nemesis with whom he shares a mutual respect, but his pride is his downfall and he dies leaving his girl heartbroken-- played-out, man. And DeNiro's love interest-- boring and useless. They could have used a blow-up doll and it would have given a more animated performance. But yeah, there were some awesome scenes in that movie.

    fuck you

That film is hilarious, and yet nobody I know has ever heard of it.   Cry

All time funniest film ever - The Life of Brian.

    Best Sci Fi - Alien

Best horror - The Ring (Japanese version).

    Best Gangster movie - Goodfellas

Really? I thought that was a quite popular movie.

Forgot about Goodfellas. That was quite great. Though for pure realism, Monument Ave can't be beat. Having known people like that in the film, it really hit the mark.

    I'd pick Aliens over Alien.

    Heretic!    finmad

Actually, they're hard to choose between because they're too different types of movies and they're both good.  Alien is like a haunted house movie, whereas Aliens is more like the Vietnam war in space.  Depends what kind of film you prefer I suppose.

I don't know it's a bit like you're (not you specifically) saying that guys with the way alpha males are described are the top guys by using the 'alpha' word, but I could say my boyfriend is an alpha male :p cause I think his personality traits and looks are the best kind...anyway it's not a big deal, it's just a little thing popped into my mind then when you mentioned it.

I watched Taken in the theatre with my last gf. Was hilarious, I was rooting for the Arabs and Albanians just to rile her up and make her think I'm really a evil bastard deep down. We had angry sex that night.
