     OP - January 01, 2010, 07:21 PM

So, who thinks they have a slight deviation in their genes? Well, since we are all annonymous here, who's up for some discussion? I mean seriously?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Personality_disorder#Personality_disorder_list

Scale 1-10, 10 being you have it, or think you do!

Here's mine: feel free to copy & paste:

Cluster A (odd or eccentric disorders)
        * Paranoid personality disorder (DSM-IV code 301.0): characterized by irrational suspicions and mistrust of others.

Used to, not much anymore, except for salesmen and people I don't trust: 2

        * Schizoid personality disorder (DSM-IV code 301.20): lack of interest in social relationships, seeing no point in sharing time with others, misanthropy, introspection.

Used to have this a lot, not much anymore, unless I want some me-time: 4

        * Schizotypal personality disorder (DSM-IV code 301.22): characterized by odd behavior or thinking.

My behavior comes across odd definitely: 4

Cluster B (dramatic, emotional or erratic disorders)

        * Antisocial personality disorder (DSM-IV code 301.7): a pervasive disregard for the law and the rights of others.

    No way: 0

        * Borderline personality disorder (DSM-IV code 301.83): extreme "black and white" thinking, instability in relationships, self-image, identity and behavior.

A bit in terms of instability in relationships, when I take people for granted: 4

        * Histrionic personality disorder (DSM-IV code 301.50): pervasive attention-seeking behavior including inappropriate sexual seductiveness and shallow or exaggerated emotions.

Not really, except for being attention seeking maybe: 2

        * Narcissistic personality disorder (DSM-IV code 301.81): a pervasive pattern of grandiosity, need for admiration, and a lack of empathy.

Oh dear, this is definitely me: 8  Embarrassed

Cluster C (anxious or fearful disorders)

        * Avoidant personality disorder (DSM-IV code 301.82): social inhibition, feelings of inadequacy, extreme sensitivity to negative evaluation and avoidance of social interaction.

    Perhaps: 3

        * Dependent personality disorder (DSM-IV code 301.6): pervasive psychological dependence on other people.

No way, but was a bit when 10: 1

        * Obsessive-compulsive personality disorder (not the same as obsessive-compulsive disorder) (DSM-IV code 301.4): characterized by rigid conformity to rules, moral codes and excessive orderliness.

Can be, especially with quality at work: 3

Dno mate I can have mood swings but my personality can change a lot - that is probably a personality disorder in itself lol.

I was diagnosed with Borderline disorder, but grew out of it. I will look it up and post what it is.

Oh. They were not allowed to officially diagnose me with BPD, because I was 13, but the good news is I just grew out of it.

Onset of symptoms typically occurs during adolescence or young adulthood. Symptoms may persist for several years, but the majority of symptoms lessen in severity over time,[3] with some individuals fully recovering. The mainstay of treatment is various forms of psychotherapy, although medication and other approaches may also improve symptoms. While borderline personality disorder can manifest itself in children and teenagers, therapists are discouraged from diagnosing anyone before the age of 18, due to adolescence and a still-developing personality.

    Borderline personality disorder

Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is a personality disorder described as a prolonged disturbance of personality function in a person over the age of eighteen years, characterized by depth and variability of moods.[1] The disorder typically involves unusual levels of instability in mood; "black and white" thinking, or splitting; chaotic and unstable interpersonal relationships, self-image, identity, and behavior; as well as a disturbance in the individual's sense of self. In extreme cases, this disturbance in the sense of self can lead to periods of dissociation.[2]

Sounds like a way of making everyone think there's something wrong with them tbh. Most of that seems like quite normal behaviour to me.

Some of these are destructive behaviors. They can hurt alot of people.

A lot of these categories, maybe all of them, are essentially just labels given to people with a certain set of problems that defines the way institutions deal with them [note: this is very separate from the question of whether it is appropriate or not]. People are only considered to have a 'disorder' when they've had certain patterns of behaviour, interpersonal problems, have committed criminal acts etc.. But they are not necessarily mentally disordered.

They ought to call bad behavior what it is: Bad behavior. All they do is help us make up excuses to do more bad things.
  • Re: Personality Disorders

They may also be people with real problems or deficiencies though.

I suppose it's as appropriate as the treatment given and how helpful it is. It goes for a lot of other things.

I think these labels definitely come in many shades of gray. But what I find interesting is how common they are amongst people - > such labels show there is a "balance" out there, and those who've leaned one way more than other end up being labeled with an issue.

Interesting also to read that Shaneequa grew out of one. Definitely right that personalities can change, e.g. kids are mostly shy. Perhaps there is a reason people get confident (or cocky) once they are fully developed so they have the strength (mentally & emotionally) to defend themselves.

I have social anxiety and symptoms bridging both bipolar and autism, but I hate going to doctors and they would just say they are side effects of my hearing disorder because it is too rare to have both.

Eccentric Personality Disorders: Paranoid, Schizoid, Schizotypal

Individuals with these disorders often appear odd or peculiar.

Paranoid Personality Disorder - individual generally tends to interpret the actions of others as threatening.

Schizoid Personality Disorder - individual generally detached from social relationships, and shows a narrow range of emotional expression in various social settings.

Schizotypal Personality Disorder - individual is uncomfortable in close relationships, has thought or perceptual distortions, and peculiarities of behavior.

    ^^ OMG This :(

Ya, that sounds like me :(

I always wondered why people thought I were odd and would constantly ask if I were ok lol.

Im not antisocial though, like when I were around friends, work colleagues and people at university, I definately know how to act to make people like me and prefer to do so, but I basically feel no attachment or emotion for anyone whatsoever, dont prioritise or look forward to socialising with anyone, and hate being close to people (detatched = schizoid, I hate that word). I cant read how other people are feeling and say or do stuff that upsets them like pushing away those that want to hug, like ewwwwww, GTFOff me. Also I never smiled at anyone or acted friendly at work because I hate doing so when surrounded by so many strangers. Thats why people would think there was something wrong with me.

Basically a crazy person that knows how to make friends, but still hates and ignores them lol.

Wait, my result bars look like my mood swings lol!!!

lol,you have the same anti-social score as me - perhaps its to do with people who are into shock humour, as I am quite a social being

anyhow what does the second number mean - is it the average?  e.g. on your narcisism you score 14% 41% - does that mean you are on the other side of the scale i.e. low self opinion  or that you dont exhibit the problem?
