  • please help me for a possible explanation
     OP - January 04, 2010, 01:05 PM

As you all know i'm a atheist, however there's something odd about my past experiences that i need your help for an explanation. Here it is:

    1. If in the USA there?s military service, here in Singapore there's National Service and i was picked to train with the policemen and we were grouped together and being called a squad. So, one day afternoon in my barrack after training, my squad mate and i heard running footsteps with ankle bell on but the strange thing is the training wasn?t too tough and we were not tired. Can you give the possible explanation?

    2. Whilst working, my colleague and i smell a burning sensation but couldn?t trace to where the smell was from. The windows were shut and the air-cons were on.

    3. My colleague reports to me that i had moved involuntary in a weird manner. Furthermore, i can only remember the events vaguely, only after it happens

Can you all give me the possible explanation for the above? Thank you very much.

p.s: i intent to post it to jeff randi website in the next 2 to 3 days grin12

May be the training is becoming easier for you and hence you didn't get tired? Just like after someone lifts the same weights in gym for a month what used to be hard starts to get easy for him and he needs to add more weights or he doesn't gain any muscle

How can we know that unless we were in your room with you? May be it was a wire burning somewhere, who knows?  You should ask your colleagues about this instead of us.

Involuntary movements of the muscles can happen sometimes, i.e your muscles contract or your face moves etc involuntarily. In the past people used to think the person had an evil spirit in him and get him exorcised, lol. I suggest you speak to your doctor about this. There's nothing supernatural about it.

thanks for the reply liberated, for my 1st and 2nd post, i can give a possibility are auditory hallucination and olfactory hallucination while the 3 rd one all i can say is that i was depress at that time up to the level that i had thoughts of suicide and it was during that time that sometimes, my movements slowed down (i even stopped involuntary once) and not to mention that i had suffered from a false memory (and due to the false memory, i scrutinize my memory). i wonder, could that be the contributing factor as well? and i also would like to ask, can more than 1 people had the same kind of hallucination? thank you. and yes, i did ask my colleague but we cannot seem to be able trace back to the source and can't seem to bothered:)

i apologised that my 1st point should go like this:

    1. If in the USA there?s military service, here in Singapore there's National Service and i was picked to train with the policemen and we were grouped together and being called a squad. So, one day afternoon in my barrack after training, my squad mate and i heard running footsteps with ankle bell on but the strange thing is the training was't too tough and we were not tired. why we heard the running footsteps in the middle of the day while there's only roof on top of our room?

You do no know that part of military service is to fvck with the servicemen on a whole new mental level, right?

"Ask the slave girl; she will tell you the truth.' So the Apostle called Burayra to ask her. Ali got up and gave her a violent beating first, saying, 'Tell the Apostle the truth.'"

you mean institutionalized? yup. is there such thing as joint-hallucination? and does anyone knows what causes hallucination?

i think i have an explanation, as for my 1st story, not all of us heard the same thing and also, i don't think all of us heard it. For my 2nd story, probably, its one of the equipment's motor got heated up or its the grinder, thus, giving the burning smell(there's once the soldering tool burnt an plastic). for my third story, as i said it was my colleague that reported to me, and it was probably they are making up story to tease me 'coz it was after the reporting that makes me believe the event actually did happen.

Pardon me guys, although i've turn atheist, it was not easy for me to embrace my new belief wholly because i was such a strong believer. furthermore, leaving islam had lead me into a depression in a critical stage, and it was all because i want to know the other side of the argument. But now, things are beginning to gradually paid off. last but not least God cannot and will not exist. Wink thank you for your time. Smiley thnkyu

congrats, i'm glad you can now call yourself an atheist and feel comfortable with you new found identity.    I guess its must be difficult if you were at one time one of the people who went round giving dawah.  how many people know of your beliefs?
