there were 114 new members this month - same as the number of chapters in the Qur'an. that must be some sort of sign.

Yet another record busting month - we're going from strength to strength

Even though the month aint over yet, we have an all-time record of posts this month, three times higher than the same point last year (with new members joining three times higher too!)

with regards to evolution? i'm not sure i was ever a 'creationist'. i acknowledge evolution as fact but i just think there are many things that it has yet to explain scientifically (conciousness, morality - i think the current 'group survival' model is way to simplistic to account for the range of human morality etc.). Also the fact that detailed molecular accounts of how complex molecular pathways evolved in a mutation-by-mutation manner is still lacking - although i hope that evolutionary biologists will one day have better descriptions.

so in summary i guess my only problem is that current thinking suggests that evolution is solely responsible for all that we are. we have shown that evolution does occur - this is undisputible - but my problem is that we have been hasty in extrapolating this into thinking that it can explain all that we are without the necessary scientifc data to support this claim. will we one day have better scientific models and data within the existing evolutionary framework? - of course we will. but i still think that it's possible that other completely novel scientific mechanisms might be uncovered that play an important role in the evolution of species and the evolution of complex traits - then again we might not.

therefore when i say i don't yet fully accept evolution, what i mean is that i'm not sure yet that it is soley responsible for all that humans and other animals are since the scientfic data to make such a claim does not yet exist - i'm not sure that any evolutionry biologist would disagree with this.

Thanks for the clarification, abu. I remember reading this thread and you said that you thought the cellular biochemical pathways were too complex to have arisen through chance and didn't believe in evolution because of it. Guess I was wrong then.

Re: Consciousness. The evolution of consciousness is something that troubles me to this day, Science has shown models demonstrating how it is possible for inanimate matter to become animate - but the creation of animate matter that is self-aware simply through random mutations and natural selection is something that I find a little hard to slow - I know it happened, but it's something I feel uneasy about. I guess I'm speaking out of ignorance here, since I don't know much about the evolution of consciousness. :s

Question is, even if there something larger out there, can we see it? Does it affect our lives? Can we interact with it?

The only answers we have are once we make up or make out. For now, that's as good as it gets.

i don't think i've said that i don't beleive in evolution because of this - for example i've always been open to the idea and stated on here before that there may be some modification to the existing theory or even an additional scientific theory with a new mechanism that might explain the formation of very complex cellular pathways

^^  Lol, plugging your own blog.  grin12

Anyways, I recently wrote a blog 'A response to Abooali' which discusses and challenges a lot of the veiws Hassan makes in his wordpress blog and in his videos including of course his scientific miracles video.

    I think he meant ^^^^ that, and Hassan's blog is here - http://abooali.wordpress.com/ - but I can't find Abu Yunus's blog either.
