    Quote
Ranya Al-Baz, a Saudi TV host of a women's issues talk show, was severely beaten by her husband, Muhammad Bakr Yunis. On April 4, 2004, Yunis left her in a hospital in a state of unconsciousness. The story received extensive media coverage in the Arab world, and the abusive husband was arrested. He was first accused of attempting to kill his wife, but the charges were subsequently reduced to the use of severe violence. Yunis was sentenced to six months imprisonment and 300 lashes.

    Quote
However, Ranya decided to pardon her husband ? a measure allowed by Saudi law. Yunis was spared the lashes and was released in early July after three months imprisonment.

    Quote
Egyptian Sheik Muhammad Al-Massir of Al-Azhar University also explained the circumstances in which a husband is allowed to beat his wife. If a woman is disobedient, he explained on the Saudi-based channel Iqra TV, " a woman for whom marital life is important suffers when she is left alone in the bed. If we get to a point where abandonment [in bed] does not pain her and words do not deter her, we may have come to the stage of beatings."

    I'm speechless.

Somebody's comment below the Youtube video:

    Quote
in islam, a man is not supposed to marry another woman out of spite. this guy is an idiot. and saudi arabia does not practice true islamic law.

     Roll Eyes

    And yet another:

    Quote
Brother, you are a coward and a weakling, ie. weak in character. I hate the fact you can distort my deen and have the world listen to you. Don't you dare cite my prophet (pbuh) and use him as cover for your insatiable anger and hatred for women. Don't use Islam as cover for you anger, you coward.

OK I feel for that guy but he's clueless.

    And finally the third kind:

    Quote
Quran 4:19 tells us not to be harsh to a woman. And divorce is halal as well.

    Quote
4:19 O ye who believe! It is not lawful for you forcibly to inherit the women  (of your deceased kinsmen), nor (that) ye should put constraint upon them that ye may take away a part of that which ye have given them, unless they be guilty of flagrant lewdness. But consort with them in kindness, for if ye hate them it may happen that ye hate a thing wherein Allah hath placed much good.

I think it's time we make a list of types of apologists. You have the No True Scotsman one (saudi don't implement real Islam), the clueless, and the one trying to change the subject by reverting to an opposite (lol at the example he gave) verse or hadith.

Wow, what a ladies man - really knows how to chat up the women with his smooth talking.
