I think the problem with trance is that a lot of DJs and producers are capitalizing on the commercial success of EDM, even though trance is not commercially successful, so they've been putting more popular sounds, which is why there's now this new genre of "trouse" and electro- and dubstep-influenced stuff.
A lot of people don't get trance. Just because I like house and other genres of EDM doesn't mean I want them infused in my trance music. Trance is an experience. It needs to be pure and unadulterated. It needs to be heavenly and take you to a higher level of consciousness. There's always room for creativity, but it needs to have that sound that uplifts and makes you feel connected. The genius is in being able to make something new yet still pure and entrancing.
