    You will have to explain about whats nightmarish about our history?

    The Crown estate gives more to the government than the Queen receives and I'd rather have our Queen than sharia law. So there is no cost to the tax payer, also there is tourist revenue.

    English culture and the English language has spread around the world, read my original post.

    So the Canadians cull some seals once a year, so what. Does that some how make the Canadians evil, I think not.

    Infact much like people never thought they'd see the day when a black president won in the US, I never think I'll see the day when someone of colour marries into the royal family.

    No, not because of the empire, but because of what we have given the world, the discovery of electricity and how to make use of it, just from that you got light bulbs, tv, a whole new world came about because of this.

    What about the steam engine, industry,railways,ships all powered by steam.

    Now wait a second. A lot of those inventions were originally developed on the European continent. Britain got its industrialization earlier than most European countries. Many historians argue that this is not due to their own efforts but simply because they were lucky. The isolated geography of Britain meant it was not involved and did not suffer from the great European wars (like e.g. the 30 years war)

    lol..you can make many accusations against us but not getting involved in european wars (or indeed any wars) is not a factual one.

    Thats a very good point. The various continental wars really did set lots of European nations back. I think its pretty accurate to say Britain benefited immensely from all the scientific and engineering breakthroughs by French, German, Russian etc scientists.. but was totally insulated from all the devastating wars. I'm pretty sure the French and Germans contributed as much to the sciences, or perhaps even more than the Brits.

     Whilst its true that Gilbert did discover electricity  I feel that the American scientist,Bejamin Franklin, should take the real credit as he was the first to suggest practical application of Gilbert's discovery.

    I agree there, altho Franklins father was English, so I was giving him an honorary Status as he was a founding father of America, so before that he would have been English as it was a colony, he would have been about 70 before independence.
