Re: Ask Imam Fatwa: The Islamic Reason for keeping women as Sex Slaves

I find it so funny and infuriating when Muslims talk about slavery in Islam, because they obviously think that slavery is wrong and having sex with concubines is wrong, so come up with ridiculous excuses.
For Example "Islam allows slavery, but Muslims have to be nice to their slaves". Last time I checked, owning somebody was not being nice to them.
Another stupid excuse I have heard a lot; "Slavery was deep rooted in Arab society, so it was not possible to outlaw it straight away. Slavery was allowed, but with restrictions so that the practice would die out". There were many aspects of Arab society which were banned outright, such as adoption, so why couldn't slavery be banned outright? And another thing, there is absolutely no indication in Islamic sources that it was the intention of Muhammad for slavery to die out.
I remember once on Ummah.com, AbuMubarak, in his defence of slavery, said that it was not slavery in the modern sense but having a slave in Islam is akin to having a Butler or a Maid. When I pointed out that you don't own your butler or your maid, your butler or your maid is paid to do a specific job, and your maid does not have to have sex with you on demand, he said "being a slave in Islam is more like being a proffesional footballer"!!!! A proffessional footballer?! I don't think Alex Ferguson is in any position to be demanding sex from Ryan Giggs!
Another stupid excuse I heard, and I think this is the stupidest one, was when talking about Banu Qurayza. I mentioned that the men were killed and the women and children were taken into slavery. And someone said that the women and children were taken into slavery as a favour to them, because they wouldn't have been able to support themselves otherwise. I think the most righteous man in the whole world ever could have thought of a better way of helping them without making them slaves!
