Number 47: "One without a second."

Those are the exact words used to describe Brahman in the upanishads around 1000bce.

Yeah, some of them do sound very Hindu-ish

Zoroastrian religion and ancient Hinduism have common indo-aryan roots so it's hardly surprising if they share some language.

Its not just the language its the imagery and turns of phrase and multiplicity of qualities which are embodied.

Well both Hinduism and Zoroastrianism have common Indo Aryan roots in general, not just language. The are rooted in the same tribal migrants. Hinduism is after all a melding of iranian and dravidian cultural and religious elements over many thousands of years.

The Sanskrit of the vedas are very similar to the Avestan language in which Zoroastrianism was founded in.

Yeah I know, the Rig Veda was influenced by the culture around the Indus region that borders Persia.

Islam has co-opted a lot of things from Zoroastrianism. I can bet that the 99 names of Allah was something introduced into Islam well after Mo's death, probably during the heavily Persian-influenced Abbasid era.

Does anyone know when and where these "99 names" were first introduced into Islam?
