I don't understand why so many fundamentalist Protestants hate Catholics (well the word fundamentalist should answer that statement  Tongue).

Well first he mentions the Inquisition and the Crusades then he spends 5 minutes stressing that one of the Church's official policies for centuries was promoting Antisemitism. He gives an example that no Nazi was ever ex-communicated while almost every known Communist was......etc

The Catholic church has patron saints, traditions and a hierarchy attached to the faith, the protestants religious movement was about removing all things not written directly in the bible from Christianity.

There were also massive wars and civil wars between the two faiths that also divides them.

Well, Hitler was (in 1931) warned he could be excommunicated if he repeated such a serious and offensive crime against God and the Church as he had done in that year!

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

I remember reading this South American girl who was about 6-9 years old got raped and she became pregnant. Her parents decided to give her an abortion to protect her life, and her family got excommunicated from the Catholic Church.  Angry

The excommunication was rescinded on the orders of the Pope, and the bishop responsible was told off for it.  Say what you like about Pope Benny but he's not completely stupid.

Cheetah, what's going on in Eire atm? has the shit hit the fan? will this scandal disenchant the Irish public from religion?
  • Re: Is Satan Catholic?

The shit's hit the fan to a certain extent - there's a lot of public anger, there have been protests in churches around the country during Sunday mass and the like.  But the Irish public were becoming increasingly irreligious anyway, so this is more of a catalyst for an existing trend than the reason for the trend.
