  • FFI or COEM site functionality & software?
     OP - April 05, 2010, 12:46 AM

Leaving aside all enmity & cultural differences aside, I'd like to see what people think about the functionality of both sites.  Which ones they prefer, why, and simple suggestions that might make a difference to either forum.

I have always struggled with FFI site, but not sure if thats just because I hardly go on there and am not used to it.

I find for a newbie its not easy to work out and feels out of date, clumsy and I dont think it has the simplicity of this one.  Are there additional things that they have that we dont, that should be here?

Its the little things here that I like, such as you can see forum statistics, you can see who is logged in (you can restrict that on FFI), post links to videos easily without having to sandwhich part of a youtube url through specific youtube url tags.

Are there any benefits to FFI software that you have noticed?

I haven't bothered visiting FFI for ages, for obvious reasons, but they are running the latest version of phpBB. I use that on other sites anyway and it does have a couple of features I like. I'm thinking about coding them into our software anyway. On the other hand it does lack some very handy features that are provided by default in SMF.

One is the handling of attachments. You can set them as inline images in your post. Arrange them how you like them, etc. It's quite nice, although really we don't use attachments much anyway so it's not a big deal. I may or may not get around to doing it.

Actually I can't think of any other bonuses about phpBB offhand and the lack of an unread posts feature is really irritating, as is the lack of "go up" and "go down" links.
