     Thinking hard

    I was wondering what Muslims or christians think about the possible time of judgment day?

    For them religious men and women, what is God waiting for? We now know that early human like people were several millions years ago. Is he waiting to reach a certain capacity for heaven or hell's residence?

    I think it depends which film you watch.  In T2 it was 1997, then in T3 it was pushed back to 2004 (?).  Either way, we were safe till some idiot went and made 2012.....

    Is there a hadith for that? Besides, didn't Muhammad say that he didn't know when the day of judgment would be?

    As far as i know mo-ham-mad, said that its close but you know how Islam is, it never gives details while for Christians, its clear their, the Jews must take Jerusalem so that rapture starts and Jesus will return then all the Jews will die except for 144000 who will start following Jesus. Thats why the religions Christians in the US want to help Israel.

    The funny thing is Muslims says that Jesus will follow Mohamed, WWWTTTTFFFFFFFFFF

    Some hadith:

    Sahih Muslim, Book 41, Number 7050:

    'A'isha reported that when the desert Arabs came to Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) they asked about the Last Hour as to when that would come. And he looked towards the youngest amongst them and said: If he lives he would not grow very old that he would find your Last Hour coming to you he would see you dying.

    Sahih Muslim, Book 41, Number 7051:

    Anas reported that a person asked Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as to when the Last Hour would come. He had in his presence a young boy of the Ansar who was called Mahammad. Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: If this young boy lives, he may not grow very old till (he would see) the Last Hour coming to you.

    Sahih Muslim, Book 41, Number 7052:

    Anas b. Malik reported that a person asked Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him): When would the Last Hour come? Thereupon Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) kept quiet for a while, then looked at a young boy in his presence belonging to the tribe of Azd Shanilwa and he said: If this boy lives he would not grow very old till the Last Hour would come to you. Anas said that this young boy was of our age during those days.

    Sahih Muslim, Book 41, Number 7053:

    Anas reported: A young boy of Mughira b. Shu'ba happened to pass by (the Holy Prophet) and he was of my age. Thereupon Allah's Apostle (may peace be apon him) said: If he lives long he would not grow very old till the Last Hour would come (to the old People of this generation).

    Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 3, Number 116:

    Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar:
    Once the Prophet led us in the 'Isha' prayer during the last days of his life and after finishing it (the prayer) (with Taslim) he said: "Do you realize (the importance of) this night? Nobody present on the surface of the earth tonight will be living after the completion of one hundred years from this night."

    Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 10, Number 539:

    Narrated Abdullah:
    "One night Allah's Apostle led us in the 'Isha' prayer and that is the one called Al-'Atma by the people. After the completion of the prayer, he faced us and said, ‘Do you know the importance of this night? Nobody present on the surface of the earth tonight will be living after one hundred years from this night.’" (See Hadith No. 575).

    Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 10, Number 575:

    Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar:

    The Prophet prayed one of the 'lsha' prayer in his last days and after finishing it with Taslim, he stood up and said, "Do you realize (the importance of) this night? Nobody present on the surface of the earth tonight would be living after the completion of one hundred years from this night."

    Interesting hadith.

    Except, with the 'no-one will be alive after 100 years' ones, they say about them:

    "The people made a mistake in grasping the meaning of this statement of Allah's Apostle and they indulged in those things which are said about these narrators (i.e. some said that the Day of Resurrection will be established after 100 years etc.) But the Prophet said, "Nobody present on the surface of earth tonight would be living after the completion of 100 years from this night"; he meant "When that century (people of that century) would pass away."


    So they're probably not about the end of the world. But I don't know why Muhammad thought that was so note-worthy. It seems pretty obvious that no-one would alive another hundred years after that day.

    We have apx 2.3 billion years or so to get out of dodge and find a new planet, then another 3 billion (give or take 200 million years) or so to find a new star to hang out with.
    Then another insanely long amount of time (like 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000 to 10^100 years.....wow, that's a long time  wacko ) to figure out (*this all depends of course on a bunch of dark energy that we dont understand...so who knows*) how to create a new universe or travel to parallel universes or something, because this one will be pretty much done.
    Find/Create new Universe, and begin process again, this time as gods Muhahaha  evil

    IIRC didn't he say that the end of the world would be in 100 years?

    Hmmm, looking at both outlooks....

    Without any mystical judgment day there is so much reason to work for scientific progress. It is a matter of our survival.

    With gods and judgment days, scientific progress is a pointless waste of time. It will all be for nothing, and we wont even be able to do anything with it, since its all going to be squashed before we even leave earth (hay, if people are living on other planets that would throw a real problem with the story as given, know what I mean).  Basically, we should all just live in caves and pray, because anything else is pointless distractions, that will never come to pass.

    Those just happened to be a few hadiths I found on one site that gave fairly specific time scales - but there are loads more of a very general nature that clearly indicate that the "Last Hour" was near at hand. For example I remember hadiths about the Dajjal (who will come near the end of time) and will go to some church in Damascus and speak to this or that person etc... and many other such ramblings that clearly show that when Muhammad spoke about the "Last Hour" he was saying it was coming "Soon!". ("So watch out for a day..." is another typical way such hadiths start, again indicating that it would start happening in their life times.)

    It's a typical ploy to sound mysterious, scary and a knower of secrets. (When you entertain kids - as I did most of my life in the classroom - using words like "Secret" and "Mystery" etc... sure gets their attention - tricks of the trade!)

    Seriously there are literally hundreds of Hadith that indicate The Last Hour isn't that far off - again just did a search and this was the first one that came up:

    Muhammad says the "Last Hour" won't come until 6 things happen - and they are all things that belong within the generation of the companions.

    'Auf bin Malik reported: "I came to the Prophet, Allah blessed him and granted him peace, during the battle of Tabuk while he was in a leather tent, and he said: 'Count six things before the last hour: my death, then the conquest of Jerusalem, then the pestilence that will overtake you like the disease of cattle, then the excess of wealth, so much that when a man shall be given a hundred dinars he shall remain dissatisfied, then revolution from which not a single house in Arabia shall be spared, then a treaty between you and the Romans, but they shall cheat you and march against you under 80 banners with 12000 soldiers under each banner. (Bukhari)

    And that's exactly what Muslims do with this sort of Hadith - they translate the word "Rum" - which actually refers to the Byzantines - and say it means "The West" - and refers to things like the US war against Muslims.
