And what do they think about them, I wonder? Do they think these are just verses?
Oh well, their view vary a lot... for example, one of them once told me:
debunker the legal code found in the old testament mainly in Exodus, Leviticus, and Deuteronomy had it's origins in the Mosaic period when Israel wondered in the wilderness as nomadic people. The use of such punishments was a means of maintaining order in a society with no criminal justice system, police force, and no prisons. Judges heard cases and made judgements based on the testimony of two witnesses, but beyond that there was no structure for maintaining order. In such an environment such punishments provided a serious deterrent and served it's purpose of eliminating lawlessness and unfaithfulness to God and others. Such punishments were also meant to keep the Israelites from taking part in the sinful ways of the surrounding non-Israelites. That's why such practices were abolished in the new testament.
But the stupidest thing I ever heard is that since people ignore these verses, then this makes Yahweh and the Bible, OK! I kid you not!
