I resent having to spend more time on Isam than I already have done.  How long will it last for?  I dont honestly know.

However what spurs me on is what we do here might might make somebodies life easier when they see the clear bright lights throught the misty fog.

They will hopefuly learn from our mistakes and continue from where we left off and may be even more successful than we were in making this world a better place.  Thats all the motivation I need to keep me going.  [/inauguration speech]

The main reason I came here was to get to know people with similar experiences. Now it's become a daily activity. I'm not sure I will keep posting as much when I go to uni later this year.

And yes I am extremely bored with Islam. Of all religion to be accurate. I used to watch a lot of YT videos. I think I watched hours of Hitchens, Dawkins, Harris among others. Now I am so fed up with it all I can't bring myself to watch one. That's, as you might have noticed, I hardly ever post in threads about Islam, religion or God. I'm only interested in chit-chat and politics.

today i spent time at my son's soccer game.. the sun was shining .. and a great breeze passed by.. just beautiful.. i forgot my chair and so i ended up sitting on the grass.. didn't mind it so much.. which is surprising cause i usually hate sitting on grass.. anyways.. for a moment.. i thought of all the drama on youtube and all those wacky messages i get.. another moment passed and i thought about how much islam has taken away from me.. including the time watching my son play soccer..
yes i'm tired of it.. tired of all of it..

I used to enjoy debating religion and have been a member of a few forums doing that, however in jan of this year I noticed I had gotten fed up with the whole thing – but I kept posting and lurking a little while longer and I noticed many atheist/agnostic/secularists-whatever started dropping out

thinking about, maybe 2010 is a magic number – as in “its 2010, please give your invisible man in the sky shit a rest”.

Debating the finer points of Islam was never really the point for me - I joined so I could compare my experiences with other apostates, which I've found quite fascinating so far. It's interesting to see how different people came to leave Islam, and what their lives have been like since. Being around like-minded people is good too. I've never had the patience to debate Muslims in depth, other than my immediate family - one of my personal goals is to deconvert as many of them as possible (2/4 so far), so being here helps refine my arguments against Islam.

I think providing a place where ex-Muslims can share experiences and company is what this forum does best.

I just thought about something on the bus today; shouldn't God or whatever provide with tangible proof outside religion? Not assumptions made by us but actual proof? Why is that so hard? Why do we have to answer all the questions, and ask all the questions. It's just a load of assumptions ingrained into belief and somehow is held as truth. In the past making religions and having prophets was a way of life. Try that today! In fact try being a self-help guru and see how that works out, add some supernatural stuff and I say to you good luck friend, I'm sure you'll find a few people to believe you but not for long.

That I can imagine and feel transcendence is an amazing thing but I can't say anything beyond this point. Why do we have it? I don't know yet. How does it work? Don’t know that either. But can I infer a Being out of this? A supernatural being even :S With metaphysical attributes? Or even a bigger assumption, a religion? People infer all sorts of things to this state. And all of them are baseless unless they have hard evidence.

I’m getting tired of discussing the finer points of religion but not philosophy or the bigger questions.

Honestly though I’m here for the people. And to troll Tongue

Yep, it does help and brings forward new & powerful links all the time.  btw re. my family, 2.5/3 for me - not bad considering that when I joined the forum the figure was 0/3

I have no recollection why I joined this forum.

I watched a Richard Dawkins "Royal Institute Christmas Lecture" from 1991 in which he tried to demonstrate to people that they shouldn't automatically assume the easy "God" explanation for everything.  19 years later and he is still facing the same questions.  I can see why that guy sometimes looks annoyed by the stupidity of questioners, he's been facing the same questions for decades, won't people ever use new arguments?

I often think to myself "I don't want to be doing this shit in 20 years, it's a waste of time" - but then I know that Dawkins has helped so many people, myself included, so surely it's not a waste of time?  I am very tired of Islam though. The same arguments over and over, knowing full well that as soon as you explain how something isn't a miracle they will ignore that subject and say "What about X then?", instantly moving on to something else.

Yesterday at my son's school I found myself talking to his 10 year old friend who was waiting for his mom to pick him up. He was telling me how he had met God.  He parents took him to India to meet some bloke who they told him was God.  I asked him a few questions, such as "What did he do to prove he was God?", and "How can you tell the difference between a God who won't prove he is God, and an ordinary man who cannot prove he is God?" - Religion is a mental scum that feeds on the minds of children.

I'm still very apathetic about my youtube channel. I think I will start with a video "The power of self delusion" to introduce the channel, and then if I can motivate myself I will do the geocentric universe video again.  I had so many notes in my Quran about errors and contradictions that I could have made 20 videos, but I find it hard to motivate myself to bother.  I've objectively proven to myself it is crap, anyone who can't see it for themself is welcome to it.

My conversation with a convert (which I have posted before) sums it up well.
Me: Don't you believe in evolution then?
Him: Yes, my many late nights on forums will testify to this fact.
Me: But the Quran says that man was created in his present form, so it contradicts evolution.
    Him: Where?
Me: (Show him the verse where it says all man was created from a single soul AND his spouse)
Him: Oh, I guess evolution is wrong after all.

In summary: Anyone who is willing to believe in something without any evidence is most likely going to continue believing in it despite any evidence.

The thing is, most of us have got past the stages of venting, then gone through the practise of scrutinising and discussing the risible ideas of Islam, and joining and participating in this forum was part of that. But there will be people joining all the time who are at the early stages of dissent and need a space in which they can clarify their thoughts, debate, vent, discuss, and so keeping this board lively and welcoming is a service to future apostates and doubters.

As well as this, there are things like the translation of the book that is being undertaken collectively. These are things of great value and importance that a sane space for discussion of Islam, religion in general, and other issues can produce.

I'm not bored with Islam. I'm sick of. Sick of hearing of, sick of having shoved down my throat on a daily basis. This forum is vital for me because it's one of those rare places where I can be understood and where I can be comforted in my opinions.

I believe most of the motivation to debate others comes not from some altruistic desire to 'enlighten' them, but to convince oneself one is 'right' and to make oneself feel more secure.

Personally I passed that stage long ago. I have nothing to 'prove' to myself.

Ironically that makes me more accepting of opposing opinions.

I do have a sense of duty to this forum though as I know what an important and valuable thing it is for others.

That was my desire. The claims looked impressive, and too many to be a coincidence, now I know how they are done I wanted everyone else to know too.  But it's important that my arguments must be based on provable facts, otherwise I am in no better a position than the altruistic gestures of those who want me to go to heaven.

but to convince oneself one is 'right' and to make oneself feel more secure.

I think that is the case for religion certainly, because the only credibility in the incredible claim for God is the fact that so many other people say it is credible.  My position on the other hand is based on a combination of evidence (proving what I believe) and lack of evidence (preventing me from believing what I do not believe.)  I don't need others to agree with my current opinion, when I was deluded I DID need that.

Personally I passed that stage long ago. I have nothing to 'prove' to myself.

Ironically that makes me more accepting of opposing opinions.

I can understand why people have these opinions, but it does frustrate me that many won't be open minded.  I on the other hand will remain open minded, if someone shows me evidence of something supernatural I will accept it.

Luke was an arrogant prick.  I remember some guy saying how it would be impossible to hit that target, and Lukes arrogant reply.  I can tell you, if I had been that guy next to Luke Skywalker the script would have gone differently

Me: That's an impossible target to hit!
Luke: It's not impossible. I used to bullseye womp rats in my T-16 back home, they're not much bigger than two meters.
