    israel is an east mix west style of life. Israel society does not made of one mold. preference variable. there are pubs, dance clubs, snooker, bowling etc

    OK I'm gonna be honest I feel really weird about going to Israel because of the conflicts you know? But I would love to visit Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Actually I wouldn't mind going to Palestine either, i like both cultures. Feels like home in the heart you know? 

    How would I be treated btw? I'm Iraqi and ex-muslim. Pretty much an atheist.

    out of that 76% of them follow Jewish religion
    16% of them follow Islam...

    So there are enough Muslims living in Israel

    I'm just saying, those from Muslim countries outside of Israel mostly have a "This passport is not valid in Israel" thing in them. Well at least the Pakistani one does anyways. They don't want any Muslims coming in to Israel at all, they only tolerate those who live in Israel, and that is not fully anyways.

    Ok, damn I forgot, don't you have a UK passport or something? In that case you are safe, just ya, you may be looked at suspiciously if you went there because of your name, I.e held back at checkpoints or something.

    an Islamic name, can cause security disturbance for these who will decide whether to approve your entry. as an eastern also an Iraqi, in Israel you will have an advantage. there's a lot iraqis jews in israel. israel is basically like any country with similar problems. I cannot reassure you Israel is an ideal paradise nor hell. something in between. so possibly when you visit you may be pleased or end up disappointed. if you eventually decide to go in hoping you are allowed to enter do it through tourist company. preferably not religious packages if you want to see more than just historical places. eilat is also an ideal place to visit it is like atlantic city only without the casions. there were illegal floating casinos run by Israeli 'mafia' which I once visit with my friends. the machines are fixed BTW. the police stop these operations. why I suggest tourist company cause they know where and where are the safe places. and do as possible for the enjoyment of the tourists.

    there was an unusual visit by Iraqi key figure who in result lost his two sons murdered by radicals who displeased from his visit.

    BD you'd be alright with your Scandinavian passport. Only Palestinians who have Western passports are not allowed to fly to Israel. They have to cross by land from Jordan.
     
    Also, you would surprised to learn that there is Arab Muslim immigration to Israel. There are Egyptian workers there. Israel is the freest most democratic country in the Middle East.

    As for how you will be treated by the Israeli public well there are tensions and discrimination so put that in mind. How widespread and unchallenged these attitudes are you have to ask ygalg.

    Really great guy. He's like 50 years ahead of his time. Although the assassination of his sons was ordered by a rival politician and it had little to do with his visit.
    One minister wanted to prosecute him for visiting Israel but the Supreme Court ruled it wasn't illegal to visit Israel.

    I'd feel like a sell-out  Cry I have thought about it but you know what I am Western because I love the ideals of a secular world. And simply if you want to live in the society I live in then I would appreciate it if you could look past my name. If you don't want to that fine, as long as you're not an employer and systematically discriminating people. Or if you work for the government etc

    I know I'm being idealistic and realistically changing my name brings a lot of good advantages. But I grew up with this name and I don't want to lose, for better or worse it has become a part of my identity.

    I don't think changing one's name is a good idea. A different or 'anglicised' name might have some superficial benefits, but it doesn't make much sense on a deeper level. When we are young, we like to dream about being someone else, but at some point in life you realise that you're better off being you.... warts and all.
    Every aspect of our lives and personality makes us who we are. Our name is part of our identity. We should cherish and hold on to our past, even if it is unpleasant ... you shouldn't forget where you come from... your roots.
    People are far more interesting when they are a melting pot of nationalities, culture, ideologies etc.
