    Uruguay 0-0 France [FT]

Yupp. Why the fuck was Henry let in the game so late?

I only caught the last 15 minutes of the match. Guess I didn't miss much.

Wow. You have Malouda and Ribery and two strikers on the pitch, against 10 men, and you don't play 4-4-2.... Domenech is an idiot.

I still dont get why Domenech wasnt let go after Euro 2008. Didier Deschamps or even a noob Laurent Blanc would have done a LOT better than this buffoon of a coach of France.

I still don't get why they call it a cup. You can't drink from that!
    Now this is a cup!

Don't want to lower the tone of this thread that is all about the only true religion - FOOTBALL and the joy and celebration of it. I was watching a World Cup programme on BBC 3 last night and they mentioned this Saudi footballer, Saeed Al Owairan, who scored this goal in USA 1994:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdg2veLiE1I&feature=related

Wonder goal. One of the great solo World Cup goals. Anyway, so they were talking about where did he go, how come he dissapeared from the football scene and nobody ever heard of him afterwards. It turns out that he was imprisoned in Saudi Arabia for six months, despite becoming a hero amongst the common people for that goal, after he was caught drinking alcohol with a western woman. Horrible Saudis.

    Interesting. Thanks.

I was wondering how "men showing their legs" issue is compensated for. Either way, that's an excuse for my parents when I go running, I just mention the Saudi team.

I've lost nearly all passion in the world cup. It's just a game that entices passions of unity, us Vs them, pride mentality. Yes, yes it is good for bringing nations together and what not. But let's face it, people with St Georges flags on their car care about England winning and being the best. And it makes the Scots hate us the better we do.

I'm sorry, I'm such a downer right? Well, I do think it is important for our economy. It will offset other parts of the economy, but there has been a link between GDP and national performance. And for this reason only, I think it's a good idea.  grin12 Huge boost likely if England go all the way

    Current odds:

    Tournament Winner
    4/1 Spain  5/1 Brazil
    13/2 Argentina  8/1 England
    9/1 Holland  14/1 Germany
    16/1 Italy  20/1 France
    25/1 Portugal  50/1 Ivory Coast
    66/1 Serbia  80/1 Mexico
    80/1 Uruguay  80/1 USA
    80/1 Chile  100/1 Cameroon
    100/1 Paraguay  125/1 Ghana
    150/1 Nigeria  150/1 South Africa
    150/1 Denmark  150/1 Australia
    200/1 Greece  250/1 Switzerland
    250/1 South Korea  300/1 Slovakia
    400/1 Japan  400/1 Slovenia
    500/1 Algeria  1000/1 Honduras
2000/1 North Korea  2000/1 New Zealand
    1/2 Odds Place 1,2

So in all likelihood England fans, be prepared for another wonderful bitter pill to swallow at the semi-finals!  lipsrsealed

The 2010 FIFA World Cup for Americans

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOy0NYeNAUw

Asshole. I hope the US beats England now, just cause of his bullshit video. "Americans don't have sports anyone else is interested in", and he names "basketball" as one of them. What? Yeah, no one besides Germany, Spain, France, Mexico, Italy, almost all of Eastern Europe, the entire Caribbean, Canada, Africa, China, the Philippines-- what fuckin planet is this dumb limey on? And only the Japanese care about baseball outside the US? Uh-huh, and South Korea, Taiwan, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Canada and Mexico-- hell, in all those countries besides Mexico and Canada it's the most popular sport-- it's not even the most popular sport in the US.

American football is the ONLY professional American sport that doesn't have at least some global following, just like Australian rules football.

That unattractive version of Dr. House lookin limey sonofabitch with the Gorbachev birthmark on his face needs to shut his mouth.

I still don't get why they call it a cup. You can't drink from that!
    Now this is a cup!

Yeah, well, it's in the wrong city at the moment so who gives a shit? I was all psyched for post-Game 7 drinking and rioting on Broad Street. Stupid Blackhawks.

Americans wear Hawaii shirts, butt-packs and beer helmets. Nuff said.

Okay, buttpacks are stupid (except as proper LBE), but Hawaiian shirts and beer helmets are AWESOME!!! I don't own either, but I would not turn down a beer helmet if given one (if it had beer in it of course), and I think I could rock a Hawaiian shirt.

Yeah, I think Ivan Drago has to be my next avatar once I'm done with Blago

His voice is also heard at the end of this song:

Yes, in fact he killed Apollo Creed in that fight.

"If he dies, he dies" Ohp-- time for another clip from Rocky IV:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDgcc5Sif3k

We'll do the same. Our team captain is going to sweep your side of the field with an M249, toss a couple of grenades at your sidelines, then casually stroll over to the other side of the field with the ball, kick it into the undefended net, then our team will drink Jim Beam and shoot craps on the bench for the next hour and a half, then the US will be declared winner 1-0.

Why would I be crying? It won't be MY national team that is ruthlessly killed by a bunch of drunk, gambling, gun-toting Yanks who don't even know how to play soccer. Sorry for your soon-to-be national tragedy.

In all seriousness, the US has been fielding better national teams. Not that I follow the sport, but it's my understanding this year's team is particularly strong. The strength and popularity of our youth soccer programs combined with immigration from Latin America could mean that Major League Soccer takes off in a big way in the next 10 years, and that 2 or 3 World Cups from now, the US is considered a major contender out the gate. I doubt we'll ever be a Brazil, but I could see the US surpassing many Western and Southern European countries as a soccer powerhouse in the next 10 to 20 years.

    fuck you
