    4-1 is just shocking piggy

Germany are not a great team, but England were just pathetic!

I said Rooney didn't look fit - all the players played like Sunday League amateurs!

so a non-Soviet linesman did not award England a goal....but England sure conceded FOUR!

40 years on and I can only think of the miserable pensioners and retirees that wanted another taste of World Cup glory in front of their eyes....^_^

BTW, what's with this tradition of men exchanging sweaty t-shirts with each other?!? That's just GROSS!!!!

i've said it mostly in jest before, but seriously this time when we came up against a good side, all we had to offer was ba-latant kick and rush football. ba-latant.

tbh kick and rush has little to do with it - if that's a style one wants to play then fine - the problem is that we didn't play to any plan - we didn't have a clue. There was no passion, no tempo, no fighting and pushing for the ball, no desire and most of all players who on paper are excellent players - playing like a bunch of wankers!

No width too - Johnson was shit - but then  again so were most of the team. The best player was the goalkeeper - David James - and that says it all - and even he's not world class!

English football system is an utter disaster!

Its fucking ridiculous how they dont do serious investment in youth academies, coaching courses, and grass roots football.

Look at Germany. They have invested a lot in their team and look at the young gems they now have. Khedira, Ozil, Boateng, Muller, Neuer, et al.

Either reform and change your football system, or fuck off England!

That was shit.  It's about time they used proper technology though, luckily this time it didn't matter but next time who knows?

I don't come here any more due to unfair moderation.

    I thought Lampard was decent.

    But Miller was changed?  mysmilie_977

    And Bradley got to stay?

    And Defoe was changed? wtf?

Maybe Beckenbauer is right - we have too many foreign players in the Premiership and it doesn't allow enough good English players to break through.

Not that it matters because England didn't stand a chance against Germany's counter-attacks.

  • Re: The Official World Cup Thread

The fact is that we had only a couple of world class players - Rooney and Gerrard and possibly Lampard. None of them played to anything like their potential. Rooney was a ghost of the player he is.

The rest of our team is average - at best - and they played like they didn't have a clue!

that and not enough investment in the English youth academies at club and national level.

In fairness to England, they did get that goal. I imagine if they were given it, things could have turned out differently.

We were pushing too desperately for an equalising goal and leaving massive gaps!

For a mature team - that childish!

I agree. If they started the second half 2-2, they would've played in a more balanced manner which wouldn't have left so much space for the German counter-attacks.

I shall try to not gloat too much!  Tongue

(Their going home ... their going home ... their going, England's going home!!)  Cheesy

The thing is, I recognize that the "us vs them" thing is just a bit a friendly banter in this context.

Agree, fair enough, no problemo!  Afro So therefore, there should be no gloomy faces in the office tomorrow!

Either way, Argentina were going to eat the winner of this match for breakfast! But then again ... never say never!

You won't hear me complain about that disallowed goal - as it would only be a futile attempt to paper over England's woeful performance.

Germany deserved to beat us - we were shit - end of story!
