Well done! I removed my scarf more than 3 years ago after around 10 years wearing it and yes I remember feeling the breeze in my haire and I started crying because of the fool I had been...
then the day after when I went to school to collect my son 5 teachers were queuing at the gate to see me all with a big smile whispering well done well done!

What is so nice is that nobody comes up to me (i mean total strangers) telling me you know sister this meat is not halal you know this and the other is makru...
or staring at me if I smoke at the bus stop...
Of course I am not talking about how it felt to wear it after the 9/11  wacko
actually after I removed the hijab many people could not recognise me it was good to be mainly anonymous.

I'd be inclined to go with THOSE MUSLIMS WHO SAY OTHERWISE . Non-Muslim women are sometimes inveigled into Islam having been told that all that cumbersome clothing Muslim women have to wear (along with other indignities) aren't REALLY part of Islam but a product of "patriarchy" imposing its misogyny on what is in fact a woman-friendly religion that actually pre-empted western feminism by 1400 years. So it is important to thoroughly check such assertions as RIBS has made above and counter them if they prove fallacious

Well infact the koran does not specifie to cover the head but the interpretation is to Take your head covering and cross it over your neck in order to cover your cleavage"
only a few hadiths mention it but of course they are used all the time the scarf is a sign of male domination and as well a political flag, muslims men tend to send thier women to the battlefront while they go around in t-shirt and sun glasses looking like cool playboys..........

Anyway, now I want to shed it and don't know how to go about it. I'm not afraid because my husband doesn't care about it at all,if I wear it or not and neither would my in laws say something but I'm worried of what they might think. I do want to maintain a good relationship with my in laws.

Well I have an Idea for you  Thinking hard wich is based on real experience many of the "sisters" I know (including myself) who have worn Hijab for a long time have vitamin D deficiency and calcium problems you could just say that you had a blood test done and you need to get more sun on your skin   whistling2 Buy some vitmins D tablets it will be more convincing it is badly hypocrite and your inlaws may well feel that you are searching for an excuse but it would maintain the status quo you want, once they will be used to see you without they will resigned to it  Kiss and if your husband is a liberal muslim I can garantee you deep down he will be very happy . If you do not have children yet please do this before having any. Smiley

Recently I was making good friends with a boy at college, however this boy has not seen me wearing a hijab, or if he did he would not have thought to make friends with me because truth be told why would you choose to make friends with somebody who is wearing a hijab more then somebody whoo is not ?   But I have looked at his FaceBook, thinking I will add him , to find out he is supporting the BNP ?  My parents are still Muslims and only some friends of mine , know I am not , this boy does not know I was ever Muslim , I am so confused what to do  lipsrsealed mysmilie_977

Why do you think he's a BNP member? What's your ethnic background? If you're from a Muslim country, it's more than likely that he thinks you're a Muslim.

I don't mind you asking but sorry I don't feel secure on this forum enough to let people know to much about me , in case of some family coming across it  wacko
I do not understand , my paranoid self is telling me he wants to be friends how he can embarrass me later but he intelligent , I don't understand why he is a supporter of them  Huh?   Plus he comes across to me like a decent fun person , maybe he is not a true supporter of the BNP ? And he only joined the page for a laugh ?   Huh?
But to be he does also seem like the kind of person who might not like Muslims .   I think I will talk to him about it after we know each other better   yes

Anyway, my first experience was a few months back, around March, or February, ii cant remember.

&& I FINALLY FELT THE WIND BLOW MY HAIR!!!!!

It was only about 15 minutes, after that ii had to put it bak on and go bak to skool.

I want to experience that feeling again.. it felt so like me. I felt ii was finally able to be myself...

    I know how freedom feels...

Even though I can't relate (I'm assuming your parents pressured you into wearing it?) well.. my parents always talked about it naturally, but thankfully never "made" us. However, they still talk about it every once in a while how we should cover, and wearing modest clothes in general because apparently showing arms and legs is slutty. My mom's logic is so weird - she's ok with short sleeves but if I were to wear a sleeveless shirt (and I'm not even talking spaghetti straps bc I guess I can kind of understand that) that's a big no no. WTF??? The only thing I can think of is that because she thinks it's regressing instead of "progressing" to more modest clothing.

And if a bit of accidental cleavage, tight clothing and shit that my mom gets onto me about drives me insaaaaaaaaane. Ugh.

    Oh nessa my love hugs

you deserve so much more in life with all the shit you're having to go through, you make me regret hating my own life, sad

Don't you dare lose hope for that day you'll feel the wonderful breezy wind in your hair, and you all these painful times will disappear into thin air, that moment of freedom that you've always awaited for, it'll show it, that it was worth the wait. Just don't let this thought of your head my baby!

i love you so much Nessy for being so patient and being such a great friend to me, you're so wonderful and i hate to see you low, please for the sake of your Emkay cheer up? Smiley

    @ thread

Oh my it was wonderful when i took of my hijab the first time i denounced Islam, it was like a black cloud being lifted off my life, i felt free like a bird, i felt i could achieve anything in the world, anything and everything i wanted, seemed only just inches away from my reach. Although i haven't always worn it, a total of two years in my life (one when i was 11, and the other when i was 16).

It was at my atheist tutor's house and i felt so liberated that i could just be myself (slutty whorey etc) without having to worry about what sort of image i'd be giving of Islam. I didn't have to constantly worry about what part of my body was covered and what wasn't. I mean it's not easy keeping these bosoms in all the time Tongue . Oh and with the liberated feeling also came the damned fear of getting caught by my mom, who went berserk when she found out and insisted on throwing horrible adulterous claims at me and my tutor. Like seriously, my hair was showing i wasn't fucking in bed with him finmad

Haha XD I don't get that either. No one will rape you immediately after seeing your shoulders. Promise. Although, I find the whole "dress modestly if you don't want to get raped" thing ridiculous and disgusting, because nothing should justify rape AT ALL. And the chances of that happening are anorexic.
But anyway, a lot of lenient muslim parents do that. I guess they think that they're being more modest or more muslim lol unfortunately, that ship has already sailed.

I used to fake hijab wearing when i was at college, it was bloody hardwork, having to do my hair and then putting a fucking cloth over it, only to have then to take it off at the train station and THEN having to fix my hair on the train with weird glances thrown my way. So fucking time consuming and at times it's just unbearable. I am so bloody glad i don't have to deal with this shit anymore, but i hate that others are still having to deal with it.
