Check that there isn't an old coaxial socket somewhere which would have been used for analog terrestrial - it should still be valid for digital terrestrial (Freeview) - at a pinch.

Yeah tried that too I think. You'll see some photos in a sec though.

For the 2nd photo, there are 2 sockets that have the same labels as the 1st socket (FM and TV) only it's for co-ax cables. Dunno what kind of cables fit into the sockets in the 1st photo though.

    5 1/4-- even older format.

Our first PC had a 5 1/4 floppy drive.  mysmilie_977  We even had some Alim course disks of that format.

This probably goes to an aerial on the roof. You should try feeding the TV connection socket to the terrestrial (DVB-T2) tuner on your set.

This box is from the cable company (VM). You will find a couple of threaded connectors, one is for a cable STB and the other will probably be for a radio tuner.

Urm... is set another word for TV?  hush

Oh and what cable do I need for that? A co-ax cable won't fit.

Just checked outside and we have a satellite dish just to our flat by the looks of it. I saw another satellite dish for another flat.

Urm... is set another word for TV?  hush

For the purposes of this conversation:

Digital terrestrial = DVB-T/2 (over the air transmission, with a traditional or high gain antenna). This means Freeview / Freeview HD.

Digital satellite = DVB-S/2 (using a dish). This will be Freesat in your case.

Digital cable = DVB-C/2 (cables running under the street). Virgin Media.

The above three types of broadcast systems require different tuners.

When I say old coax connections, I mean these sort:

    Unthreaded, interference fit.

    When I say F-type, I mean these:

    Threaded.

    What does cable STB do?

A cable Set Top Box (STB) would be provided by the cable provider (Virgin Media aka VM), much like a Sky box (satellite STB). The STB is basically a standalone tuner / decryption / decompression / video display device) which connects to the TV. In your case, your TV has both a satellite and digital terrestrial tuner built-in, negating the need for the STB. What you need to do is decide whether you want to use digital terrestrial ala Freeview (using an aerial - if you need to buy one then you need to read a little more) or satellite ala Freesat (you will probably have to get someone to install it, and of course get permission from your landlord).

God doesn't want you waste your life watching TV, which is why he's placing these obstacles in your path.

Each of us a failed state in stark relief against the backdrop of the perfect worlds we seek.
