    According to the above-linked article:

    Quote
While no one can see into the heads of the project's leaders, Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf and his wife Daisy Khan, the background of the project offers overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

Unfortunately the "overwhelming evidence" is notable by its absence in the same article - just some uncorroborated references to "media reports" and a quote by Rauf's woolly-pated floozy Daisy Khan that "the closeness of the center to Ground Zero is a real blow to the extremists,"

The article asks the question: "is [Imam Rauf]  a closet radical Islamist out to replace the U.S. Constitution with Koran-based sharia law?

Let us re-read the words of the good imam I posted above:

    Quote
All the LAW that a Muslim needs is in the Qur'an and the Hadith, sayings of the Prophet Muhammad.

So the answer to the questioner must be that there is nothing "closet" about Rauf's pro-sharia sentiments. That he makes such an effort to convince the American public that sharia values and US democratic ones are one and the same strongly indicates that he would indeed like to see his adopted country under the laws of Allah.

BTW deusvult. I am experiencing some difficulty in accessing the Bios of Rauf and his colleagues AT THE ASMA SOCIETY WEB SITE. Could you go there and tell me if you are experiencing the same problem? Thanks.

This guy is working on behalf of the same hostile supranational political entity - ISLAM - as those who destroyed the World Trade Center and shares their aims. If he was open about this and what the proposed mosque REALLY symbolizes to him do you think he would be permitted to build it?

please explain why what this mosque represents to him even factors into why he should or should not be allowed to build there. And again please explain how you peered into his soul to find out what he really feels.

Being "on the phone" didn't stop you from posting this. If you have finished your call perhaps you can try those bio links at ASMA which I am still having no success with.

I like his point early on about the 2nd amendments right to bear arms, yet you need a permit first & not everyone can get one?  Is this true Q?

If its true it goes to show such laws are always subject to context.

Fuck Pat. I could only watch the first two minutes of this ignorant asshole's video before I had to stop it.

    1. How far does an insult have to go for it to not be protected by the First Amendment? Gee, I dunno Pat, but the US Supreme Court upheld the rights of neo-Nazis to march through a predominately Jewish neighborhood with a high percentage of Holocaust survivors back in the 1970s. You see Pat, we actually believe in religious freedom and free speech, freedom of expression here. We don't just toss this right every time it becomes politically inconvenient, offensive or "insulting". This is what separates a right from a privilege you ignorant limey cunt. You should know better, your countrymen (John Locke, Freeborn John) developed the idea.

    2. Wait a minute, Pat, in another one of your videos you stated that the First Amendment had "always been held inviolate" (not really true, but that's beside the point) and that the US must stand firm on the First Amendment as Europe has been censoring opinions critical of Islam as "hate speech." So I guess the right of free expression/belief protected by the First Amendment are only so good as you agree with the beliefs being expressed, right Pat? The First Amendment must be held inviolate when it comes to your buddies Robert Spencer and Pamela Geller, but should be tossed to the side when it involves Muslims.

    3. Second Amendment. Pat, do you ever bother to research anything before you open your stupid trap? The Second Amendment was not tested by the US Supreme Court in a serious way until Heller in 2008, which was the first Supreme Court case that firmly established the 2nd Amendment protected an individual right, and even then, it wasn't incorporated to the states through the 14th Amendment until the McDonald v. Chicago decision came down two months ago-- two fucking months ago, Pat! See, unlike with the 1st Amendment, there was very little Federal case law on the 2nd Amendment until very recently. Case law-- ever fuckin heard of it, asshole? So your analogy=BIG ASS FAIL

    4. You keep stating the motivations of the people behind the Ground Zero Mosque as if they were facts. What evidence of their motivations do you have Pat? You a fuckin mind-reader? If so, I'd think you could find a better use for that talent than making crappy, uninformed YouTube video rants. Maybe you've got authenticated minutes of a secret meeting with Imam Rauf and his supporters/benefactors where he stated the purpose of building the mosque there was to lord over Islam's triumph on 9/11 and rub it in the face of the American kafirs. If so, we'd all love to see them.

And that's just the bullshit I got from the 2 minutes of that video I could stomach. Bottom line-- Fuck you, Pat! And I'm about sick and tired of someone as incredibly misinformed on American politics, culture, and law as you lecturing us on how to run our fucking country, how to interpret our own laws, and what rights we should extend to whom. Suck my sweaty Egyptian-American balls you old limey crank.

That's how you do an angry, cranky rant, Pat, not your weak-ass shit.

    fuck you

See what I wrote above on the topic.

    Quote
If its true it goes to show such laws are always subject to context.

    Or it shows:

    (a) There was very little case law regarding the 2nd Amendment until very recently, as I noted above.

    (b) The Bill of Rights, especially certain parts of it (2nd Amendment, 4th Amendment, 9th and 10th Amendments) have been routinely watered-down by bad legislation combined with bad court decisions or just plain old ignored since the document was ratified (going back to at least the Alien and Sedition Acts of 1798).

    (c) Laws, even Constitutional ones, are simply not sufficient to protect natural rights. Don't believe me, read the Mexican and Soviet Constitutions and tell me how well they actually correspond to reality.

Thanks, I must admit I am very ignorant about US law, and the 1st & 2nd or whatever amendments & what they mean.

Know a good place to get a simple basic introduction to this stuff?

That's okay, just don't make YouTube videos talking about them like you got a fuckin clue if you haven't.  Smiley

Not really. I been reading about this stuff from many different sources almost my entire life. Wikipedia's the best I can tell ya-- I just checked the article on the 2nd Amendment to make sure I had the right date for McDonald v. Chicago and looked like they had a pretty decent article on the subject from a brief skim, but don't hold me to it, not like I read the whole thing.

    I like Pat Condell.  Afro

He is what freedom of speech was invented for. When he's right, he's fucking right on the money. There's nothing quite like a solid dose of extremism in the defense of liberty to clear the sinuses.

I'm glad some people actually use freedom of speech rather than go on and on about its value as a 'principle' ad nausium. Fucking use that shit. Speak your mind, and the devil may care.

Oh, I support the right of Pat Condell to make ignorant, misinformed rants. But the evidence is pretty clear, from his own statements, that Pat Condell may talk about free speech a lot, but seems to think that right only applies to those he agrees with. In Pat's mind the First Amendment should be held absolutely inviolate when non-Muslims insult Muslims, but should be subject to limitation when it's Muslims insulting non-Muslims. Pat's a fuckin hypocrite, a liar and an ignorant windbag, with more bravado and opinion than facts.

    fuck you
