     OP - September 04, 2010, 02:38 AM

for this article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ex-Muslim  ? It contains a link to this forum. It says "The Council of Ex Muslims forum is a large and growing site full of debates and discussions between Muslims, Ex Muslims and Non Muslims."  grin12

Good job to whoever did it  Afro

If we are ever to be more successful as a tiny & hushed down minority, we need more people doing selfless acts like this.

Nice work. From the general look of that article I'd guess it was originally posted by someone from FFI. I noticed that the "List of notable former Muslims" begins with a huge list of those who converted to Christianity. Naturalistic types get relegated to after the three Abrahamics and the Bahai's. Other eastern religions get listed after heathens. A slight bias towards the Abrahamics may be noticed in some quarters.  grin12

Anyway, suggestions for improvements to the content of the main article:

1/ The second sentence should be rewritten. "This may mean you converted to another religion from Islam or adopted non-religious philosophy, with a naturalistic worldview" would be better as "Such people may have converted from Islam to another religion, or may have adopted a non-religious philosophy with a naturalistic worldview." This is much better grammar and sentence structure IMO.

2/ This sentence may cause problems with Wiki's official editors: "Several ex-Muslims have been scared of coming out publicly due to the threats from mainstream Muslims, many of whom consider apostasy punishable by death." It also doesn't take into account that more than a few ex-Muslims worry about coming out, and not just because of direct threats related to the sharia position on apostasy.

Something like "Many ex-Muslims are reluctant to publicly announce their position due to various factors. These factors range from concerns about the Islamic law punishments for apostasy (link to wiki/Death_Penalty), to fear of ostracism from their families and community." might be better.

3/ "Muslims, Ex Muslims and Non Muslims." would be better as "Muslims, ex-Muslims and non-Muslims." [/grammar Nazi]

4/ The Organisations and Websites sections could have the main CEMB site added to them.

Yep good points. I had just added the line last August that IA quoted in the OP, the rest of the wiki article was there before. And then in May someone had gutted the whole page and taken out the link to CEMB, which I went in and restored.

I'll edit the rest of it too and see if the wikipedia admins approve. Afro

Hmm. Question: when the page was gutted and the CEMB link removed was the link to FFI left in place?

Looks like you may have run afoul of the Wiki guidelines re external links.

Well, this link could go in an external links section then...

Yup. I've never had to deal with Wiki Powers That Be so am not up to speed on their likes and dislikes. Using the External Links section may be a safer bet though.

Exactly. I know Wikipedia is hugely popular, but why are people more eager to edit it rather than our own wiki(s) here?
