  • Biology in the Quran?
     OP - September 27, 2010, 07:55 PM

I just wanted to start this thread since i was given a book to read titled 'The Quran and modern science' ...i remember reading it a while a back when i was muslim and becoming so fascinated by it and taking in every word the book said without doing my own research. I see allot of you guys have much knowledge about these verses of the quran and i would just like to know what you guys think and how you would explain these verses.

Im just gonna start with a few, and i hope you guys can help me out.

Everything is made out of water

The verse ends in ' we made from water every living thing. will they not then believe?' (21:30)

As we know scientists have found out that the cytoplasm in the cell is made up of 80% water. Modern research has also revealed that most organisms consist of 50% to 90% water and that every living entity requires water for its existence.

' and Allah has created every animal from water. ' (24:45)

The verse starts ' It is he who has created man from water...' (25:54)

can someone just help me out with this first and then someone can maybe also let me know if there is another thread like this.

Prophecies are a funny thing - you're either right or you will be soon.

There's no way of falsifying them.

Here an excerpt from my sie: http://sites.google.com/site/islamicscripturesunveiled/Home/weirdscience

Every living thing is made from water, so says the Qur'an: 21:30 ...and we made every living thing of water? Of course today we know that all living beings comprise a relatively high percentage of water. Muslims ask how Muhammad could know this, fourteen hundred years ago, unless it was divinely inspired.

The easiest response would be to state that Galen, in the second century, had already elaborated on the idea that the body is composed of a balance between the four elements present on earth- fire, earth, water, and air. In addition the Hindu scripture, Bhagavad-gita, preceding the Qur'an by 3,500 years provides even greater details on the composition of bodies of material living beings. BG 7:4 Earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence and false ego, all together these eight constitute My separated material energies.

Knowing Islam is the only true religion we do not allow propagation of any other religion. How can we allow building of churches and temples when their religion is wrong? Thus we will not allow such wrong things in our countries. - Zakir Naik

Nadeem F. Parcha wrote an excellent article on "Islamic science".

It was from the perspective of a liberal Muslim, but nails everything down.

In addition to the "Scientific Miracles" thread, Maurice Bucaille's book was often referenced in other threads:

    It's easy

1: Thales 624-526 BCE "Thales' most famous belief was his cosmological thesis, which held that the world started from water"

2: The creation story in Genesis starts with everything being water.

I don't come here any more due to unfair moderation.

The idea that living things are made of water is centuries older than the qur'an.

Now if the Quran mentioned trace elements of phosophorous in the chemical composition of the human body, then we'd have something.
