     OP - September 30, 2010, 01:24 PM

    BBC1 28 September 2010

Reporter John Sweeney's last investigation into the Church of Scientology resulted in an explosive confrontation with church officials. This time, in a Panorama Special, one of those officials has turned whistleblower to help him reveal the dark secrets of the church, which boasts Hollywood A-listers Tom Cruise and John Travolta among its devotees.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe%27s_Garage

    Quote
Joe turns to religion for help, and "pays a lot of money" to "L. Ron Hoover" at the First Church of Appliantology (a parody of The Church of Scientology). There, Hoover identifies Joe as a "latent appliance fetishist". When Joe asks if he should "come out of the closet" he is instead instructed to "go into the closet" to achieve "sexual gratification through the use of machines". In the next song, we learn "The Closet" is the name of a club where humans can copulate with appliances. Joe locates a machine he likes, named Sy Borg, and they return to Sy's apartment. There Joe and Sy have a "groovy orgy" with Sy's roommate, a "modified Gay Bob doll."

Joe ends up destroying Sy (whom the Central Scrutinizer calls an "XQJ-37 Nuclear-Powered Pansexual Roto-Plooker") with a golden shower. Joe, who gave all of his money to the Church of Appliantology and is thus unable to pay for the damage, is thrown into a special prison. The prison is painted all green on the inside and filled with criminals from the music business. While in jail, Joe is repeatedly gang raped ("plooked") by former musicians and record executives when they're not snorting lines of detergent. This gang is led by a shockingly endowed former promotional agent of a major record company, known as "Bald-Headed John: King of the Plookers".

"Locating and auditing of body thetans on Incident I (first incident in MEST universe) and Incident II (incident which caused the degradation of these beings into body thetans and clusters as caused by Xenu approximately seventy-five million years ago). Herbert Kornfeld

Prior to his death on April 30th, 2007, Herbert Kornfeld wrote about workplace issues for The Onion. He worked as the Accounts Receivable Supervisor at Midstate Office Supply, the state's oldest wholesaler and retailer of office supplies and business machines.

I'm too tempted to post his graduation photo from his FB page as it is hilarious and looks eerily similar to Mr Kornfeld but that would too unethical !

Somebody in UK provided me with a copy of this program. Interesting how the BBC is prepared to "go after" Scientology and trample over the "sensibilities" of its adherents - eg:

    > suggesting to devoted Hubbardists  that their "religion" is a "cult"
    > Mockingly confronting them with certain ludicrous doctrines

in a way it is not prepared to do  with the far more dangerous Islam. Indeed the BBC seems to see it as its sacred duty to counter "negative perceptions" of Islam among the general public.  Any suggestions as to the different approaches to the two barmy cults?

or buddhism, hinduism etc so in this case it has little to do with Islam being dangerous (having said that they have had plenty of exposees and programmes such as dispatches & undercover mosque etc. - you conveniently missed them I guess)

You see DH your criticism is totally biased, and you waterdown our own arguments against Islam on this site by going over the top & calling Islam with arguments its not always entirely guilty off.

All you end up making exmuslims on this site do is defend Islam, and as ex's they resent having to do that after suffering at the hands of years of Islam, which you personally havent.  By spreading exaggerated untruths, you force us to defend the oppressor.

If you care about your cause then I think it really is in this forums interests that you left this site.  I also think you would  have a better time & find more agreable people within FFI.  Of course DH, at the end of the day, I still like you and its up to you.

This is the second such BBC Panorama prog investigating Scientology on the basis of it per se being a "dangerous" and "sinister" cult. The BBC would never brazenly suggest the same to a Muslim interviewee with respect to Islam. That's the fact of the matter.

Of what, exactly, have I accused Islam that it is not guilty of? That it is a cult? Admittedly the distinction between "relgion" and "cult" is somewhat spurious but the distinction is made and Islam per se displays more than enough of the featues to qualify it for the latter category as the term is commonly used. For instance cults are notorious for harassing, threatening even killing  those who leave them - an undeniable feature of Islam from its earliest beginnings which it has failed to shed with the passage of time. Not all Muslims actively take part in such activities. So what? Most members of Scientology don't. It is however a feature of the Church of Scientology that marks it out as a cult.

These programs were not put on by the BBC which has a manifest policy of steering clear of such output because of its potential to feed "negative perceptions of Islam" which it clearly sees as its primary duty to counter.
