I think the basic Lutheran belief is the idea that believing in Christ is all it takes to get into Heaven or something, and that doing good or bad deeds or being a good or bad person has no effect at all on your chances. A lifetime of good deeds wont get you into Heaven if you don't accept Christ as your lord and savior, and a deathbed conversion and confession to the belief in Christ is enough to erase a lifetime of henious shit. In other words, Gandhi is in Hell and Hitler is in Heaven.

I could be wrong though.

Yes, I believe they call that 'sola fide,' or redemption by 'faith alone'. I thought that kinda thing was more characteristic of evangelical Christianity. Guess it may apply more broadly to Protestant denominations.

Lutherans are another Protestant sect, but there are differences between us and other Protestants.

We believe the Eucharist and the wine in Holy Communion are Christ's body and blood. Other Protestant sects believe they are mere symbols. Lutherans have their own personal belief about Mary's perpetual virginity and the immaculate conception ( Catholic Teaching says Mary was born without sin ). They have the choice as to weather or not believe in Mary's perpetual virginity and immaculate conception. Most Protestant sects don't believe in Mary's perpetual virginity and the immaculate conception. Also our Church services are similar to the Catholic Mass.

Close. Through faith, Scripture, and by God's grace along with good works a person can be saved and go to heaven.

Hitler was not Lutheran. He was raised in the Catholic Church but turned back on Christianity and tried to have Pope Pius kidnapped and assassinated.
