    Lets wait for the parliamentary election results. Although 600 members of the brotherhood have been detained--which If I'm not mistaken is about the same as the Iranian election protests. Yet hardly any media spotlight. Wonder why  whistling2

    The fact that "Islamism" is the message of the Koran and it is perfectly reasonable to assume, in the absence of conclusive evidence to the contrary, that anybody who defines themselves as a "believer" in that book as the divine world endorses the message of that book 100%.

    On what do you base your 5% figure?

    I'm using the word "tacitly" as distinct from "actively" in the sense that al-Qaeda and hizb ut Tahrir are active proponents and pursuents of jihad and sharia.

    I'm quite willing to reconsider my estimate if you can counter it with figures for the proportion of self-proclaimed "Muslims" who belong to each of the categories I listed above.

    In other words it is perfectly reasonable to assume, in the absence of clear evidence to the contrary, that any randomly selected person who defines themselves as "Muslim" fully endorses the Koran's violent supremacist agenda and at least tacitly supports those actively pursuing that agenda.

    Years and years of being a Muslim, scocialising with various Muslim communities, attending numerous madrasahs in 3 different countries etc... you know actual real-life experiences.

    If you think 95% of Muslims have ever even read the whole quran in a language they understand you are either ignorant or plain stupid.

    While Islam may be more politically assertive and absolutist than other religions, it must be noted that all religions have idiotic and fascist dogma.  For instance, in chapter 13 of Deuteronomy, Jews are commanded to kill apostates.  Even the 'peace-loving' Jesus advocated the law of apostasy and supported slavery.  It has been estimated that the Christian witch-hunts between the 16th and 18th centuries resulted in between 40,000 and 60,000 executions.  Today, most believing Christians gloss over or ignore such details.  In spite of crazed rhetoric by some fuming fundamentalists, the same latitudinarianism should be expected of most Muslims living in relatively secular societies.  After all, religious affiliation is more often about your parents than your thinking.

    To be honest, most Muslims aren't taught about the Qur'an or Islamic history, they're only taught how to practise Islam (learn suras and how to pray) and that's it.

    It is. Inherently and irredeemably so. It provides no get out clauses for people who might dislike its barbarities and wish they weren't there. As "Allah" says:

    I'd say less than 30% have actually read the Quran in a language they understand--I still haven't read it all in english lol
