    I would say that very few muslims (in comparison with the entire population) are conversant with Islam in its entirety (if at all beyond parroted rhetoric and general knowledge)
    Most likely <10%


    However, the general age range of Muslims I come across are 15-35 lower-class Males  in Mainland England (Leeds, bradford,manchester,leicester etc etc) , I have to say that almost none of these people (that I've met) have a god damn clue on anything, especially about their religion, so in my personal experience entirely on it's own (Even in comparison to all others I meet) , it would be <0.1%
    as the sheer level of ignorance of the people who know little/nothing of their religion engulfs the few that do.

    I think it would make more sense, particurly if we different people are going to be assigning %'s, if actually define what you mean by Islamist so we are all talking about the same thing

    e.g. somebody that prays 5 times a day & goes to mosque every week, a male that wants to marry a niqabi/girl that only will marry a beardo, somebody that believes its our duty to perform jihad which is defined as holy war because he doesnt pay lip service to shariah law but really wants it & believes in every zionist conspiracy theory under the sun.

    Ye, I agree, Islame. Location would be a big factor here i.e. people here who live in an area with a heavy Muslim presence may have encountered a fair number of 'Islamists' or who are surrounded by particular ethnic groups which take Islam very seriously. Even though, my parents have a dislike for Jews and homosexuals I still wouldn't categorise them as 'Islamists', and I'm not sure about my brother either as he seems more aware of the Islamic theology (hadiths) which do show how Muhammad didn't trust the Jews hence my brother labels most Jews as 'devilish' who are part of a conspiracy to destroy Islam.

    I wouldn't 'Islamist' label on him because I don't think he supports shari'ah law or at least certain areas concerning Islamic jurisprudence on homosexuality and apostasy and he was ashamed of the islamists who burned poppies on armistice day, but I'm sure there are some here (without mentioning any names) that may classify my brother as at least being part of the silent majority who are behind the 'Islamist' ideology.

    Most muslims I've met might do not support the hardcore, violent factions of Islam (like the Taliban, etc), do generally agree with most of what Islam has to say, and believe that it is for the best. They may not pray 5 times a day, but they maintain that a husband punishing his wife is perfectly acceptable, and that non-muslims are inferior. They would probably respond quite happily with the notion of returning to (what they beleive are) the roots of Islam.
    I wouldn't label them Islamist, though, because I associate that with a relatively obvious militant aspect.
    So yeah, as Islame said, might be a good idea to define what is meant by an 'Islamist'.

    I think most support armed resistance and some form of sharia law. But I don't think that many adhere to an ideology where its fine to blow up civilians and stuff.

    If it was just the UK, then I would have clicked <10%, but if its the world then, considering there's so many wahabis in Saudi Arabia and in other underdeveloped countries, I guessed 10%-20%. Assuming there's a higher proportion of Islamists in Saudi Arabia than in UK... which actually I'm not too sure about :/

    Less than 10% in UK.

    That doesn't mean the rest cannot be ruthlessly criticised and shamelessly ridiculed for believing in magic and shit like that.

    I also think there is a real risk of hardline far-right haters and hooligans like the EDL stirring up Muslim youth and driving them into a unified extreme anti-national front. But the numbers are still pretty low at this point, on both sides.

    ^No resistance against occupation. As for democracy all I can say is: Karzai wasn't elected democratically. Nor was Hosni Mubarak. Neither was Mahmoud Abbas (the 'terrorists' won there remember) I could go on and on.

    No doubt some people will find my views hard to swallow and will accuse me of supporting 'terrorism' seeing as I can't be bothered to argue, I'll just remain quiet  Smiley

    Are the people exploding bombs in Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Islamabad and Rawalpindi resisting occupation? When they blow up worshippers inside mosques, in market places, machine gun people to death?

    They are killing normal everyday Pakistanis. Some of them because they are the wrong sect. Some because they just need to keep the jehad fires burning.

    I think it's a complex issue, and the extent to which Muslims in the West support Islamism is difficult to quantify.  There a lot of cognitive dissonance in the minds of Muslims about this.  Take Thamina's bf, for instance.  On the one hand, he supports Islamism, but at the same time he has a premarital relationship (which is clearly forbidden in Islam).

    Who said anything about the Taliban? Being pro-afghan resistance doesn't make you pro-taliban you know. I don't think even most taliban fighters want such strict laws and aren't religiously driven as the Mullaocracy that controls them!


    About my bf.......if he was alive during the era of someone like Gamal Abdul Nasser or even Ataturk he'd have been a nationalist secularist opposing foreign influence. But bcoz the 'trend' amongst muslims is an Islamic ideology rather than a nationalist or secularist he follows that.

    Has the Israelis been another type of Arab instead of Jews, I suspect the reaction to Israel & its atrocities would have been entirely different.

    For that reason I believe its disproportionate, and is exacerbated by the underbelly of racist resentment against Jews.

    Pashtuns. That's who. The current war is just a continuation of the civil war. You'll find that very little pashtuns are part of the afghan security forces despite being the majority in the country!
