They're pointing out that many leftists have managed to delude themselves into supporting Obama even though Obama is pushing a right-wing, pro-corporate, pro-imperialist agenda. It's an old argument about whether the American Left should support or reject the Democratic Party, particularly Dem Party establishment leaders like Obama-- the argument has been around since the turn of the previous century, but the "lesser of two evils" camp never seems to get it, despite a mountain of historical evidence that the Dem Party is no friend to the political left or the working class and never will be.

Had he been a leftist I doubt he would have got voted in, but he does lean to the left side of American politics. Obama is a populist, the best way to be if he wants any chance of keeping his job - unfortunately his missing spine means he's unable to do that properly either.
