    r U interested in the arts? In writing as in poetry  ( that is in words ) ?

     I have seen interesting art where a form is created with/ from arabic letters, have U seen this ?

    If U would form a shape out of letters what would it be?

    tbh I always thought calligraphy art was rather boring.

    Of course one can make pictures using the script of any language. The only reason Arabic has developed calligraphy art so much is that painting human or animal forms was frowned upon in most Islamic societies and thus discouraged.

    Allah wanted that avenue of human expression stopped.

    That's why there are no Muslim Van Goghs, Da Vincis, Michael Angelos or Monets.

    Yes I am interested in arts.

    Yes I have seen Arabic caligraphy. Its not really my cup of tea to be honest.

    There are strong caligraphy traditions in a number of cultures, China and Japan for example.

    If I would form a shape out of letters I would make a giraffe out of the letters G I R A F F E

    and an elephant out of the letters

    what do U think of arabic architecture?

    Did I understand U right; U became a muslim at 18 and now U r not a muslim anymore ? I thought muslims could not leave their church ?

    U´r painting with the trees, grass and river is interesting.

    What do U know about swedish art ? I think its quite boring at the time beeing; Lars Vilks who is currently talked about internationally is costing the swedish taxpayers t-o  m-u-c-h; he states what evereone already knows zzzzzzzzzzz..................................................

    The swedish taxpayers has to pay 1 million crowns per day for his protection...  money that could go to art school for children,  public culturehouses, grants for artist abroad who would like to visit us and state artist- salary.

    I think the wedish people soon dont care about him getting killed Afro...  ( irony)

    Anyway, do U have more creations U can share with us here, thanks.

    Yes, U r correct !

     I apologise ( have an aching chin and will see the doctors tomorrow: the pain is such that it hurts even when I breath.... so I have to eat painkillers in maximal dose and drink beer this weekend.
    That is also why I focus on this interesting site and take time to get to know its citizens.

    When did U actually create the painting with the river.: can U remember h-o--w- U came abot to create it?

    I will see if I can post one of my creations soon; it will most likely be a photo.

    I painted it about 1978 - I used to have a book called Visions which was a collection of paintings by a group of artists from San Fransisco - and it inspired me to do this and a few others that I no longer have.

    I think the Arabic script itself can be quite beautiful, as it's all essentially calligraphy. Maghrebi script is particularly beautiful:

    Oh, and as for Islamic art, my avatar is an example of it, and not only does it show human forms, but it even shows Muhammad with his face uncovered. I'm not sure if the whole prohibition of depicting human and animal forms is as uncontroversial as it might seem, but I may be wrong.

    I know the feeling: my big size examswork from artschool (pastell oil colours ) is most likely missing. It might  be found but in the meantime Im thinking about making a similar creation: there r so many witnesses to that painting anyway.
    Gave away all the other oilpaintings I did at school: was probably more interested in t-h-e  p-r-oc-e-s-s of creating them.
    Its also thrilling to think about who has them now; maybe they were painted over cool2

    I presume Ur first language is english; wouldn´t U then agree to that the word vision really has two meanings.

    May U please tell me h-o-w I shall go about to publish a pic here, thank U.

    Thank U,  I was personally intrigued with this type of art when I had time to look at it.

    A handsome artist in Istanbul wrote my name in arabic calligraphy and it clearly looked as the number 5 ( or was it 6, I cant remember now) the number was seen when looked upon the separate letters as a unity .
    After that I was invited to look at handwowen mats which was absolutely interesting and my wish is to receive such a mat one day; pattern Huh?

    I will go and check this " writing" in front of a mirror: this might be an idea for my exhibition, thank U so much.

    Please send more if U get the notion.

    2011; how far have we come ?

    I might add that if anyone in the community like to have a piece of art; a PHOTOGRAPH hanged at my public exhibition this summer here in Sweden U can tell me here and then send it. It can be hanged with Ur own name  grin12 or Ur signature cool2.
    The theme shall be:

    1) while on a walk outside; nature

    2) arabic letters U find artistically interesting in some sence.

    U can choose pictures of any size, minimum half an A4.

    Some great stuff in this thread. I love Alex Grey and Dalí. Used to be a huge fan of Banksy, but I think his work has been commercialized to the point that it lost its revolutionary meaning, if it ever had any. Seems quite postmodern.

    You mean the avatar?  Just go to your profile settings and paste a link to it in the 'I have my own pic' textbox.  Of course, you have to have uploaded your picture to an external image hosting site first.  Most people here just find a pic on Google images and paste the url to the image directly.

    Anyone here good on Japanese art? Years ago I saw a work by a contemporary female Japanese artist. The thing was done in traditional ink on a platinum foil backing, was around twenty feet long, and was bloody awesome. Can't remember the name of the piece or the artist though. whistling2
