This is an interesting case on so many levels, and ironically might actually be good for Pakistan.

Different to Benazirs assassination & others, this was a Islamically related killing, so I think it will begin a serious debate of what Islam's role is in the country.

btw where's is the footage of the actual assassination?

How can you get that? The guy is from with-in  Salman Taseer security force., he came out of his vehicle just shot him  just after Taseer  got out of    his vehicle..

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7GL-lbKF9Q

It is clear Mr. Nawaz Shariif and his party that is in power in Punjab is responsible for Governor's security.,   On top of it This BRUTE told to his colleagues that he is going to kill the governor., yet none of them  could take the weapon away from him or even arrest him on spot.,   That tells a lot about the security provided by Punjab state govt.

Qadri had informed that he is going to  kill  the governor to his fellow guards: sources

    http://www.thenews.com.pk/NewsDetail.aspx?ID=8732

ISLAMABAD: Mumtaz Qadri, the assassin of Salman Taseer, has disclosed during investigation that he had informed his fellow guards about planning to assassinate Governor Punjab, Geo News reported sources as saying.

Meanwhile, he also told investigating officials that he had been ruled out of Special Branch owing to security risk some times ago, sources said. Informing his fellow security guards about the plot, Mumtaz Qadri, had requested that they (other guards) should not open fire at him after killing of Salman Taseer as he had pledged that he would lay down arms after assassination, sources quoted investigating officials as saying.

He had said that he wanted to be arrested alive, sources said.

Malik Mumtaz Qadri had been ruled out of Special Branch some times ago because of security risk, he confessed.

Well alive you will become hero., dead you will become martyr + enjoy houries and honey rivers  in Allah heavens

either way you win and islam wins.. jihad wins Qadri.. Rogues  if no one opposes .. they always win..    That is nature., Survival of the fittest.. So the best for people like you .. Some one has to send you brutes  to Allah as soon as possible..

Land of Pure Baboons of Islam talk on the Murder of Salman Taseer

    Quote
The largest body of the Barelvi group, the Jamaate Ahle Sunnat Pakistan (JASP), whose directions are considered binding on every other organisation that follows the same school of thought, issued a statement saying that “No Muslim should attend the funeral or even try to pray for Salmaan Taseer or even express any kind of regret or sympathy over the incident.”

The statement which has been endorsed by senior Barelvi leaders such as Professor Saeed Shah Kazmi, Allama Syed Riaz Hussain Shah, Syed Shah Turabul Haq Qadri and Hajji Mohammad Tayyab calls the assassin Mumtaz Hussain Qadri ‘Ashiqe Rasool Ghaziye Mulk (Lover of the Prophet, Commander of the Country)’.

Muhammad was indeed Gay that was before he was 50 year old and  he became Mr. PBUH.

    Quote
“We pay rich tributes and salute the bravery, valour and faith of Mumtaz Qadri,” the statement said, adding that the ministers, politicians, ‘so-called’ intellectuals and anchor persons should learn lessons from the governor’s death. The scholars said that those who insult the Holy Prophet (pbuh), even if they did not intend to, were liable for death.

    Quote
    (Clicky for piccy!)
Hajji Mohammad Tayyab, who is also the secretary general of the Sunni Ittehad Council, told The Express Tribune that scholars had “repeatedly urged the president, prime minister and Governor Taseer himself that if their knowledge about the blasphemy law are limited, they should consult them and avoid debating over the issue as it would inflame the people and then anything could happen.”

Jamiat Ulemae Pakistan (JUP) central executive committee member Maulana Shabbir went as far as saying that in his opinion Salmaan Taseer was ‘Wajubul Qatil’ (must be killed according to divine law). “He had called the divine law of God, a black law and tried to protect a condemned blasphemer,” he said.

Uhh, what? Where did you see that?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YeSX6AZ5xEI

This was a few years back but you can clearly see girls wearing salwar kameez shouting out "Pakistan zindabaad."

Good find! For a second I thought I was going senile!

After checking over the pictures I took I think it is the case that the Pakistani end is segregated and that on the right side it was dark (with burqas) but the left side it wasn't. The only pics I took were when being able to see the left side of the Pakistani seating area which as the photos below shows is all men and no burqas. I think when I sat on the opposite section (on the Indian side) that I saw the right/darker section of the Pakistani audience.

This blog post confirms the segreation on the Pakistani end:

As the gates opened, the males were sent to a different grandstand to the females in this segregated Islamic culture. Over the gate we could see the Indian grandstands on the other side full of colourfully clothed men and women chanting and screaming.
    http://mindlesswanderings.com/2010/08/wagah-border-pakistan/

This is the blogger's pic of the women's section:

Now honest, when I was there it was much fuller on the Pakistani women side and there were A LOT of burqas. Either way the Indian side had blaring speakers and people dancing, didn't see it at all from the Pakistani side when I was there. I mean it really was obvious there was and open culture and a closed one which is my point.

Thanks though, nice to see colourful Pakistani women chanting in the video.  Good to see there are some videoed even though I didn't see it myself. Smiley

This Religious Rogue says "Taseer himself responsible for killing homself"
    http://www.thenews.com.pk/TodaysPrintDetail.aspx?ID=24093&Cat=5&dt=1/6/2011
    Quote
JAMAAT e Islami  Ameer Syed Munawwar Hasan has said the murder of Punjab Governor Salman Taseer is the outcome of obstructing the process of the law in which an accused of blasphemy was being tried, adding that he (Taseer) himself was responsible for his death.

In a statement on Wednesday, he said despite occupying a high government office, Salman Taseer openly flouted and violated the blasphemy law and continued to support a woman convicted of blasphemy.

He met the convict in jail and announced at a press conference that the blasphemy law was a ‘black law’ and he would get her clemency from the President. This announcement was made at a time when the lower court judgment was subject to appeal before the High Court and the Supreme Court.

Syed Munawwar Hasan said that Salman Taseer had persistently ignored the sentiments of 170 million Pakistanis by terming the blasphemy law a black law and ridiculing Ulema. During all this time, the leadership of the Tahafuz e Namoos e Risilat Mahaz had been demanding of the government to take notice of Salman Taseer’s statements.

It had also called for his removal from his office but the rulers did not pay heed to these demands.

The JI chief said Muslims’ love for the Holy Prophet (SAW) was natural and unlimited and any Muslim could not tolerate blasphemy of Holy Prophet (SAW), as had been proved by this incident.

He said this was not the first incident of this nature and there had also been such cases in the past.

Therefore, whoever dares use indecent language in respect of the Holy Prophet should review their own conduct.

The Pakistani rulers who keep on hurting the Muslims’ sentiments only to please their masters in the west should also review their actions, the JI chief said.

He said that the religious forces wanted protection of the blasphemy law so that the whole matter was decided by courts and such incidents could be avoided.

That political party JAMAAT e Islami   should be banned and buggers like these baboons

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-7_1O6f9SI

should be put behind bars and clean shave the rascal twice a day for inciting lunatics and generating more lunatics like him in the society.. 7th century Muhammad of Quran/hadith was a lunatic and fools like you following him are worst lunatics of the present society

Chaos over Murderer  Mumtaz Qadri's court appearance says news.
    http://www.dawn.com/2011/01/06/taseer%E2%80%99s-murderer-mumtaz-qadri-presented-in-atc.html

The crowd in Rawalpindi set up a cordon preventing the judge from leaving for Islamabad for the hearing.

ISLAMABAD: A planned court appearance for Malik Mumtaz Hussain Qadri, the killer of Governor Punjab Salman Taseer, ran into chaos on Thursday as extremist supporters prevented an attempt to re-locate the session, witnesses said.

Mumtaz Qadri, who was assigned to Salman Taseer’s security detail and confessed to the killing, was charged and ordered to appear before the Anti-Terrorist Court in Rawalpindi on Thursday.

But as a growing crowd of extremist lawyers and madrassah students descended on the building in support of Qadri, authorities instead drove him to a makeshift court hastily set up in a heavily protected building in Islamabad.

But the crowd in Rawalpindi set up a cordon in protest, preventing the judge from leaving for Islamabad, lawyers and an AFP reporter said
    .

“We requested the judge that legally he cannot go to Islamabad to hear the accused and he accepted our request,” lawyer Malik Waheed Anjum told reporters. “The judge ordered Islamabad police to present the accused in his court in Rawalpindi,” he added.

More than seven hours after journalists first gathered at the Rawalpindi court for the expected hearing, Qadri finally arrived and was feted with rose petals by supporters for the second day running.

Police officials in Islamabad were unavailable for comment.

I don't think any judge giving any decision except making the murderer a hero and Mumtaz Qadri(PBUH)   giving him a free Mosque to preach his Islam is acceptable to Mr. Muhammad, Prophet of Islam followers..

Other wise Judge is writing his own death warranty.. How about some  Allah given American drones on the heads  these PBUH followers?  That will be good for them. They can spend their after life in Allah heaven  with wide eyed big bosom houries  swimming in honey rivers

Well, she is poor. And I don't think government can provide her security for rest of her life. Someone is going to kill her.

The only solution is to do multiple military operations on these nut jobs like mushurruf did, and crush their voices before they can release her.

Are you sure? I can't find the news. Anyways, anyone can claim refugee status in Canada if their lives are in jeopardy in their home country. So visa isn't really an issue. The thing is, if someone is willing to sponsor her safe departure from Pakistan.

What is worrying is that you don't have to even 'insult' Mohammad to be a target anymore. Taseer just stood up for a vulnerable woman, and said the law needed reforming. This was taken to be by implication and extension an insult to Mohammad.

Reading the articles from the Pakistani diaspora and liberal Muslims you can see and feel the horror of what Pakistan has become.  One heartbreaking comment from a article was, " What have we become?"

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

Don't mourn for assassinated Punjab governor or you will deserve the same fate, say group of 500 Pakistani scholars (and they're the moderate ones)

The group is one of the largest representing scholars from the moderate Barelvi sect of Sunni Muslims. They have been leading protests in favour of the blasphemy law.

For those who don't know what barelvis are:

There are 2 main sunni groups in Pakistan. Both are subsects of the hanafi school. Barvelis are more 'sufi' less political that dr tahir ul qadri is a barveli although most barvelis disagree with him about christmas and other things. Anyway compared to the other group called deobandis they're less political and less 'radical' (JI is deobandi as are the taliban and other militant groups)

Yea that shit is perverse.  I can imagine the most vile and despicable human being on the planet being executed by the state and I cannot imagine in my wildest possibility that anyone could deny that person's mother, father or anyone else the ability to morn that person. Without hyberbole I can say that that is inhuman.

The other thing is, any lawyer who defends someone accused of blasphemy could get the same treatment because they'd be doing exactly what Salman Taseer was doing. So there would never be a fair trial for anyone.
