You're an exception. Most people who scrape their heads furiously on the prayer mat and rear their buttocks majestically to the sky so Allah might get a good whiff do so out of bonds of friendship. The Muslim colleague who slips one the dawah pamphlet, the shapely Fatima in whose curves you want to lose yourself, the mosque down the road with the charming imam you met at the underground swingers scene. You know the story.

So the Quran did it for you then. I know that intoxicating feeling one gets from chanting the Quran myself, a subject I've tried to explore elsewhere. Let me know your thoughts:

Well I never analyzed the effect that beautiful recitations had on my brain, tenderizing it, until it's ready to absorb a "miracle". Very very interesting... I think I would add beautiful calligraphy to the same class of "sacred harmonious brainwashing" (I have no idea what the technical term is)?

I doubt that I'll have anything intelligent to say on your subject, but will glance at it nevertheless.

They are certainly close, I would guess about 90% mutually intelligible.

Talkin' to me? Well, I studied it for a little while. It's an awesome language and I'd like to resume my study of it when I get the time. I daresay, I would die a happy man if I could become fluent in it.

I'd have thought Russian and Serbian would have been really quite different and not mutually intelligible. I once asked a Czech how much Russian he could understand, and he said about 10%, and I figure that Serbian would probably be just as different from Russian as Czech would. Not so, say you?

Stop exaggerating Bardhi, how much do you understand from this russian dawaganda, in kuntum sadiqeen:

yeah sure, especially when speaking the languages it is very difficult to get anything... but in writing it is much easier to understand... I am not even a native speaker of any slavic language and my serbian skills are ranked in the bottom of the foreign languages i know... but still i could understand the easy conversation you had with alex while reading it (probably not as much if i would have heard it).

ак, алекс, ты говориш по-русский или украинска? я любю русский, это очень красивое язык.

so, aleks do you speak russian or ukrainian? I love russian??, which ....... language (this is what i got from my serbian)

Хаха, да, я понимал тебя, но ты говориш украинска также, или только русский? они много разный?

haha, yes, i .... you, but you speak ukrainian .. , or much russian? they a lot different?

    ...................

did i get the parts i thought i am understanding right?
могу с тобой разговаривать по русский, но не на форуме, дорогой.

I can speak with you russian, but not in the forum, friend.

You got the simple conversations 90% right. What about the song? I gave the video with words so you can't use the excuse "when spoken"

As i stated be4, i am not even a native slavic speaker but i am quite sure that ukrainian and russian are not so different, seeing that me with my below average serbian skills can understand partially written russian (but not when hearing it)

p.s. i translated till the minute 1.29 and all the translations are based on what i could read , not what i could hear... Spoken russian is not understandable for me whatsoever, just a few words here and there...

Not bad, chief. Yes, you got everything except 'eto ochen' krasivoye yazyk'; 'it is a very beautiful language.'

'Haha, yes, I *understood* you, but do you speak Ukrainian *also, or only Russian*? Are they much different?'

Not bad, Mr. Bardhi. I guess they might be more similar than I thought.

well what my father told me, since his serbian skills are comparable to native serbian speakers, serbian helped him a lot learning russian while he was in Kazahstan. I guess the relation between those languages is like german and swedish (i won't say Dutch coz German(Deutch) and Dutch are quite similar)... hard to understand each other, but if you master one of them, it helps you a lot and makes it much easier to learn the other one

Yes, Slavic languages all share a lot of vocab and grammar, and Russian itself is actually one of the simplest ones to learn! Even still, my Russian is largely ungrammatical, owing to the insanely complicated rules of inflection that are so characteristic of these languages.

But your native tongue is Albanian, is it not? How does that compare to something like Russian or Serbian? It's a completely unrelated language, no?
  • Re: I can do this
     Reply #50 - February 01, 2011, 09:26 PM

Yeah Albanian as a non-slavic language has basically nothing common with serbian and/or russian. There is some vocabulary that passed from serbian and bulgarian to albanian , especially in the north and east albanian dialects.  but in total they are not comparable except for being part of the indo-european language family....

The song is good. Has anyone listen past 2 min? I'll translate the dawaganda if anyone's interested. Guitar - is tradition; Wahhhabis are not all powerful Smiley

Edit: Bardhi understood a lot less than I though he would - 0.003% or a little less.
