    @KT - I am not certain but I think they smooth out the ground with their feet and then make a smallish ditch so the eggs don't roll away.

    I'm just trying to make sure, it must be flat. I personally think Quran is talking about a flat earth, just don't understand with what logic Zakir Naik linked ground to egg.

    The logic is like this

    Quran: "The Earth was (smoothed out)"
    (Smoothed out) root = (Spread out)
    (Spread out) is also the root for (Place ostrich lays its eggs)

    WOW. The word "egg" is in there, and eggs are not flat.  Allahu Akbar!

    (Pretend we didn't notice it was the PLACE and not the egg)

    just out of interest, anyone know why cone shapes are so popular in nature, particularly when it comes to making eggs.  I would have thought spheres would be far simpler and stronger Huh?

    But rationalizer, the conclusion does not follow from the premise. The place is not the same as EGG, ground does not = EGG!

    Possibly to do with efficiency. The most energy efficient shape would be a sphere, though in nature there are no perfect lines, due to randomness, only humans create perfect lines.

    I don't think it was that. Nature has plenty of near perfect spheres, much closer to perfection than an ostrich egg.

    Ovoid eggs make sense for a few reasons
    1: The egg is soft when laid so would get squeezed on the way out.
    2: The egg can have more volume without having a larger girth, which would be more damaging to the parent.
    3: Like an enjoyable fat poo the end gets squeezed off as it exits the hole.
    4: They are more likely to roll around in a circle than roll far away if they fall out of the nest.

    Ostrich egg's would only be affected by 1 + 2 I'd expect.

    Harun Yahya was the first person I saw to make this claim.  They say the words "Ostrich egg" and then instantly show an ostrich egg side on with an Earth surface mapped onto it.

    They KNOW it is wrong, they are lying because then there will be more Muslims and they will get more people loving them.

    I see - its limited by the diameter of the vagina, so I guess an egg shape is the largest volume/strength  compromise.  And nature has all this figured all this out without knowledge of engineering or basic maths Afro

    Haroon Yahya talks utter nonsense. I was in Pakistan a few years ago, and I went into a book shop and I saw Yahya's book atlas of creation, I had never said some much utter shit in my life. If you're going to try to debunk and argument at least understand the argument first. So anyway few days later I argued with the shopkeeper, telling him to remove Yahya's book, which was incredibly stupid on my part since I could have been beheaded or something so saying his book was bullshit.

    It's so they don't roll in a straight line. Keeps them where they ought to be if they roll in circles. Birds that nest on rock shelves on cliffs have eggs that are more different end-to-end than birds that nest on the flat. If you're perched on a rock shelf 300 feet up a cliff you can't afford to have your eggs roll in large circles.

    You what annoys me most about that Zakir Naik clip. When he says that the first time the western world discovered the earth was round was in 1597 when Francis drake sailed around the world!

    There is so much wrong with this statement! As rationaliser pointed out, we ahave known the Earth is round for more than 2000 years at least.

    Then he says in 1577 when Francis Drake sailed around the world, it was found that the world is spherical! Francis Drake was not even the first person to circumnavigate the Earth - and even if that was true, surely Francis Drake wouldn't have attempted to circumnavigate the Earth if he didn't think it was spherical!

    And people still take this idiot seriously!
