Israel in 1948 accepted the UN division of Palestine, because they realised that this was much, much more than they deserved. Ben Gurion was well aware of that.

To be clear, I don't support either government. But Palestinian people are oppressed, Israelis are not. Anyone who thinks otherwise is blind. And I find it sick that people use arguments such as "they don't believe in gay rights" to oppose Palestinian freedom. I'm a queer/bisexual guy, but opposing gay rights is not a reason to oppress anyone. THERE IS NO REASON TO OPPRESS ANYONE.

Two states isn't a "solution" of any kind. Everybody in Israel, Gaza and West Bank needs to be merged into a single state with equal citizenship for all, and both sides will have to work out how they will address their respective "right of return" policies. Golan Heights should go back to Syria.

Too bad I won't live to see the devolution of the nation-state system-- get rid of political borders and the conflict between self-determination rights of different groups ends.

In my limited view of things from the safety of the UK, both sides are as bad as each other. Israel is on land that was a backwater part of the Ottoman empire with little importance (until it was given to the Israelis), but even more land was stolen from jews expelled from Turkey, Libya, Iraq etc in 1948, most of whom were welcomed into Israel. Most of the Palestinians withdrew voluntarily in 1948 to prepare for the incoming war but were not afforded such a kindly welcome in the neighbouring Arab countries, and could have stayed and happily outbred the jews in peace to swamp them in a few decades with their fecundity.

I cannot pick a side with any ease, but would probably say Israel (based on the fact that they are at least slightly more tolerant of minorities than the palestinians) if I was pushed

I don't think that land was ever "a backwater part of the Ottoman empire with little importance" when the Ottoman Empire was the sick man of Europe Theodor Herzl (so-called founding father of Zionism) offered to pay the Ottomans debt (or something similar involving $) in exchange for land which the sultan refused saying that land belonged to the Ummah, its always had a religious significance which makes it harder to resolve, if it wasn't for the Al-Aqsa mosque, Muhammed and his mythical horse the conflict would be easier to solve.

I'm not making any presumptions. Ben-Gurion says that if he was an Arab, he would never sign an agreement with Israel. That rules out the two-state solution. The two-state solution is the one most supported (if I remember the statistics correctly) by both Israelis and Palestinians, and by most of the peace supporters I've talked to. You're an Arab. Does quoting him on that imply that you agree with him, and that you don't support the two-state solution?

If you notice, I didn't make any statements, I merely asked tentative questions.
