I still couldn't see Hitler being that influencial.  we was in Germany for what 10 years and then he was done.  Marx, Aristotle, Darwin, Thomas Paine, Jesus, Buddha, would be a few on my list.

Well he was among the most influential people in his time.

Yes, I did think that, but to be honest it would be a misrepresentation of who I am/what values I hold, so based on that I won't.

Lets face it, Maria... its not just islam, but SUPERSTITION runs rampid
in asia, and come to think of it, there were some pretty wild superstitions
when I lived in SE Turkey, too.  If you are prone to BELIEVING superstition,
it doesnt matter what faith you claim.  Its ridiculous!  Kind of like the
jinn thing, and throwing black beans on someone's pillow.  The little tiny
folded pieces of paper with curses or witchcraft on them.  pssssh! LOL

You know, here in the states they have something called "voo doo".
The voo doo folks even admit that it DOESNT work if you dont believe
in it.  Ponder on this for a while and look at the BIG picture of humanity
and life.  And these little gnats can be easily swatted away.  Tongue

Voodoo started in Africa and had it's popularity here in the United

States for some time. Speaking of superstition and black magic,

India is a booming industry for such things. Even in Pakistan there

are crooks out there looking for vulnerable people who could use

help. Muslim practitioners commonly seek the help of the Jinn in magic.

It is a common belief that jinns can possess a human, thus requiring

Exorcism. An example of this is writing verses from the Quran with ink

on a porcelain plate, washing the ink off with water and have the

    "patient" drink the water-ink mixture.

Being a hijabi myself I can say yes we find ways to express ourselves despite that shit. I might wear it but add makeup, skinny jeans + skintight clothes and it takes it a bit away from the seriousness of the hijab. lol we wear whatever we can get away with  whistling2 even the hijabis that are muslims at heart who wont admit it still try to look good. As said above trying to look good is a natural urge.

Precisely! My point is why feel guilty and be hypocritical about it.

" muslims at heart" : I am sure Muslim scholars have a definition that's very different from the definition understood by the lay followers! whistling2

Hijabis come across as the biggest hypocrites.

Well! well! well! miracles do happen after all! No disingenuous arguments to cloud the truth and insult the listener's intelligence . So refreshing!

Or maybe they just hate it and are forced to wear it but make the best out of the situation.
And even if they arrent forced, but wear it due to brainwashing, it stil goes against their natural insticts and desires.

Madam they aren't allowed to , or the whole purpose is defeated!
The underlined is an oxymoron IMO.

Lara are you forced to wear Hijab?
I tried to dig a lot of historical photographs of Bedouin women in Arabia and other parts, none of them were wearing hijab as we know it, they had a light shawl around their head, I guess to protect them from the son, but I didn't see photos of hijab as we know it now.  But I could be wrong,  perhaps you alread have a hijab history thread on this forum??

Ugly. Is irrelevant. It is an immeasurable insult to a woman, and

then supposedly the worst crime you can commit as a woman.

But ugly, as beautiful, is an illusion.

Well not exactly, I started wearing it when I was 8 not because of force but silly childish reasons.
Though I have always known that I by the age of 12 or so would have to start wearing it, my parents forced my sister to it so I knew I had it comming. No one says you h<ave to wear it but they say it part of islam, I dont even think my parents think of non hijabiis as good muslims.

So no one forced me back then but if I was ever to take it off   well lets say its not an option. I huess forced to keep wearing it would be the right thing to say.

Lara, are you saying you're an ex-Muslim but you have to keep the hijab?

I can dress up from head to toe and still get catcalls. Then I have a cousin who wears a burqa in a non muslim country and gets constant attention for that. Really dressing up modestly doesn't mean you are free from unwanted attention. Just don't leave the house heh. I truly don't know how girls who dress half naked handle it. It boggles my mind.

I think that girls that wear niqab in secular country and girls that walk around in short shorts both get looks. The girls that don't get constant looks are the ones that dress moderately.

If you want to avoid getting stared at then just stay away from both extremes.  Smiley

Saw a woman today wearing a veil that completely covered her face - one piece of black cloth covering eyes as well.  I have never seen that before, I did not know it existed.

I have to wear a niqab as part of my mosque uniform. But recently, I've started to take it off halfway down the street, which usually causes people to give me dirty looks.  Tongue

She has no self respect or worth. If she thinks she's cool or westernized by showing her legs then she has her head up her ass.

A woman can walk around naked and still have self respect.
Because, you know, self respect is not defined by what we wear or how much skin we show.
Perhaps, the oversexualisation of women's bodies is to blame for seeing naked women as lacking in morals, dignity or worth.

I wonder what you have to say about tribes where men, women and children cover their genitals and nothing else. Are we more civilised than them? I doubt it. At least women aren't shamed for being naked - which is our natural state.

What's the big deal about being primates with clothing that we have the audacity to judge people's worth by how much skin they show or how little, or by what they wear etc.
