So in addition to fasting, the 5 regular prayers and taraweeh, my dad now expects me to spend all the time between asr and maghrib at the mosque getting food out and shit for iftar, starting tomorrow. I hate this month.

Oh yeah man. I was forced to go pick up food for them and when I come back home they tell me they forget they also wanted some other food so then I go all the way back to the grocery store... it's ok because I broke my fast there since they couldn't see me MWUAHAHAHAHHA!!!!!Everyone was looking at me all funny as I pounded that bag of chips... ahhh best chips I've had in my life.

Ooh zaiba, your avatar is nice... Mmmmmmmm...

The movement I've just had in my pants, thanks to your avatar, has made all my efforts today pointless...and with only 8 minutes to go, that's such a shame....

Oh well, I'll try again tomorrow.

I used to do that, in my teen years when in the back of my head I was still a muslim but I raved, drank etc.

I was smoking as I walked down the road, bumped into my dad (since my childrens home was not far from my parents at that time, temporary thing), who looked at me with horror and said, its not even that you are smoking that makes me so angry now, but that its ramadan.   Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

A feast fit for an Indian Prince. Onion bhaji's, Samosa's, Shami Kebabs, Chicken Karai with Sweet Rice. My wife went all out (with a little help from me), so I'm really glad I wasn't faking the fasting bit.

Tbh, I stuffed myself so quickly in the first minute that I couldn't really eat anything after that. Plus, I think my stomach has shrunk already, so as hard as I tried, I just couldn't get anything in.

very happy to read this thread, today because of start of ramadan I feel very lonely because it brings so many memories of living with my husband and now living alone is hard. Normally I forget about it, but now... somehow I feel rejected from the group I used to belong too, even though I don't want to belong there anymore... weird isn't it. Is anyone else here dealing with the same?

But today I ate and ate all during the day, as some kind of weird protest, I ate lots of pork even. I feel for you guys who have to fast because of family... Thanks for making me laugh!

Are you wondering if any of us have been alienated from the Muslim groups we may have belonged to? if so, I think a few people here have gone through exactly that..

Undecided. May relax the rules a little if I do. One cig and two teas is a fast of sorts? Surely the Merciful Allah would allow me that?

Oh no no no, Islam is submission, full on submission, no lee ways Tongue

I have a confession to make about Ramadan ..

The fact that I've been fasting for almost 10 years, with my own choice, with the whole energy, the whole muslimah role. And because of that, this year I just feel so extremely nostalgic, I wish I could just be a pretend muslim for a month, and take part in all of it again. I feel so stupid saying that cause as much as I know some of you probably think I'm stupid to want that as others have no choice but to fast (with the exception of Musivore, who is just a weirdo Tongue) .. I wouldn't quite mind going through the whole Ramadan ordeal. Saying that I probably wouldn't be able to pull it off, cause I don't want to just fast, I want to believe in it, like I used to. I want to believe that it would gain me Jannah points, I wanna feel a sense of pride going to the mosque and being part of the Ummah. And well I'm never going to feel that ever. Cry

Damn I suck. Why would I want that? I wish I didn't but I really do. Okay LOL I'm going to shut up now .. lipsrsealed

Awww...you miss the belonging, the spirituality of it all, and the unique feelings that only a month of pious, voluntary starvation can invoke. That's perfectly understandable.

yeah musivore, of course maybe a bit of a stupid question anyway... I guess most of us feel the same...
Well what I wanted to describe was what Zaiba did a couple of posts later, this exact feeling I have also. I am still working with muslim students as I am a teacher to foreigners here in Holland and everybody running home to iftar and me not.. but probably when they would invite me now I couldn't do it.

    Don't patronise me ! Tongue

LOL yes, that's what I miss indeed, but I feel stupid for feeling that cause I want to feel it purely not just fake it and play along, which I can happily do. wacko

Oh, I see... Listen, it may not be the same, but if you'd like to be with a group of people where you'll always feel welcome, and where you'll find very like-minded people, who will gladly share their stories, their pain, their triumphs, their advice and their laughter with you; then pop into this forum more often? Even if it is only whenever you get the iftar blues?
