  • The English Premier League thread
     OP - August 12, 2011, 02:18 PM

It seems not even some of the biggest riots in England in living memory have managed to halt the start of the new Premier League season which kicks off tomorrow. Please use this thread to discuss all things football relating to the EPL including involvement of EPL clubs in European competition.

I personally think it's going to a grrrrrrrrreat season  grin12

Before we get stuck in, since this is an English football thread, the mods have asked me to at least lay a few ground rules so things don't escalate beyond friendly banter (they haven't really) and unfortunately this was beyond my control.

I will only actually have a couple of rules:

    1) If you are a spuds fan you must pass an IQ test before you are allowed to post in this thread. Please take it here and report back your results:

    http://www.iqtest.com/

If you score above 20 you will be allowed to post in this thread

    2) Yanks and Canucks, please refrain from leaving stupid comments on our thread. Otherwise we shall teach you a lesson you will never forget.

Cesc and Nasri not in the Arsenal squad tomorrow - we all know what that means. I knew cesc was gonna go and that one was ok by me - he's a Barca boy afterall. But then selling our second best player to a rival club? WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know his contract runs out at the end of the season and he will then leave for free, so it makes sense to sell him and get 20 odd mill. but the point is we should have never have let it reach this position - we should have had his contract sorted at the beginning of last season - but no doubt Arsenal were being cheapskates over his contract - and that's why he didn't sign. i'm not even sure what kind of contract he was offered at the time

I can't believe that Chelsea aren't going after Nasri (again!). We're gonna be stuck with Modric. '-_- I know Nasri usually plays wide for Arsenal, but he could be more useful than Modric in midfield I think.

if we sold nasri to chelsea or united, i'd stop watching football. i'm not kidding. i guess it's the upside of citeh having such a fat chequebook

I'm really disappointed by Chelsea's purchases... 3 kids... we've needed a creative midfielder and natural winger since... forever. And then they go and buy a 6th striker. What is the point if the first 5 are just going to have crappy service?

They shouldn't have cancelled the the Spurs game, it's just what Tottenham needs to bring people together and cheer things up.

    Very amusing.

I was hoping to find an IQ test for Gooners and Pensioners but sadly there isn't one that covers "Neanderthal".

Oh wait, they pulled the plug on that deall

    we are fucked

We have wingers, so we buy another.

We have defenders, so we buy another.

We have a woefully inadequate central midfield, and do nothing about it for the third year in a row.

Even allowing for the £70-million-a-year Glazer tax, Ferguson has no excuse. (Rather like Wenger.)

But seriously I'm a girly girl, and I should just show myself the exit from this rugged footy thread. (If anyone's interested I support Chelsea cause they're my local team, and I have no choice.)
