It was a two-day thing with two rather distinct themes to each day. First night was "Epic night", with "epic" heavy metal bands, mostly. Manilla Road are the pioneers of the genre, and the rest of the bands are mostly clones
Battleroar are from Greece, DoomSword from Italy (though their songs are all about Vikings, go figure). You should give DoomSword a try, you might like them.
Second night was "Doom Night", with, you guessed it, doom metal bands. There were like three Maltese bands that I skipped to go have a drink as I wasn't familiar with them. A couple of nice "retro" doom-rock bands (Devil from Norway and Orchid from the US, the latter being an awesome 70's Black Sabbath worship band), a couple of trendy female-fronted bands that surf on the retro rock wave, which I didn't particularly care for.. oh yeah, and Lord Vicar from Finland, which is the band of the guitarist of the late Reverend Bizarre (probably one of the BEST doom metal bands of all times), which was the band I wanted to see the most. Overall it wasn't the best lineup, but I had to go, if only for Manilla Road.
What's the name of that festival? I'm jealous, I'd very much like to see Blind Guardian and Iced Earth. Though for the latter, I wish it were with Matthew Barlow
