Australia has 56 species of parrot.  dance  The ones in the pix are these guys: Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo

Also, tis spring over here and my Lousiana irises have just started flowering, so here's a totally gratuitous pic of Lousiana irises and orchids n stuff (note the extremely stylish wheelbarrow lurking in the background).

    It's a very good wheelbarrow. grin12

Anyway, just in case anyone gives a rat's, Australia used to be known as the land of parrots. There's a Chinese map from the 17th century that refers to it as such. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shanhai_Yudi_Quantu

    Quote
    Terra Australis

Terra Australis is described phonetically as "Magellania" (Mowalanijia 墨瓦臘泥加), a name given to the continent at the time in honour of Magellan. The map mentions how little is known about this continent: "Few have reached these southern regions, [therefore] the things [related to them] are not explored yet" (ci nanfang di ren zhi zhe shao, wei shen qi wu 此南方地人至者少, 未審其物).

     - Yingge di 鸚哥地 ? "Parrot Country" (Terra Psittacorum - Australia)

European maps of the period also had it mentioned (but with the wrong shape and location, of course). Note where it says "Psittacorum Regio", which is Latin for "Kingdom of the Parrots". parrot

So, know you know where my obssession with parrots comes from. I'm surrounded by them and they are lotsa fun. Smiley

Smiley Yeah, I took the shots it at night, and that background colour is from the street lights; intensified through Photoshop.

The following I used Windows live photo gallery to adjust some contrast and shadow levels.

Autumn is a time of blood-red sunsets. Which is, coincidentally, not what you're seeing here. Cambridge in autumn looks something like this:

These are some from 2003 to 2005. I was an amateur photographer back then working as a graphic designer and a zoo keeper.
