    They consisted of anti-fascists battling for control of the streets mostly by beating the shit out of the fascists so they would have difficulty holding marches and rallies, conducting meetings, and recruiting supporters. Question stands.

    Against it. A. I believe in free speech and assembly, even for fascists, B. It didn't really work in Germany, did it? Violence only breeds more violence. Things like that "radicalize the moderates", as that dude from Four Lions said.

    Bear in mind that the fascists concerned were no strangers to beating up their ideological opponents either.

    If the main hazard of violence is not so much that it may be morally wrong but that it is unchecked, what is a proper response?

    Doing something bad to a bad person does not make it good.

    And the proper response would be restraint. As I said earlier, restraint, even violent restraint, is sometimes necessary to protect oneself or others. But that is different from retribution. That is different from wanton physical assault.

    you're making the assertion that violence is "bad" when toor already stated that violence is not what's morally wrong, unchecked violence is what is morally wrong.

    So do I in terms of the state, but all bets are off when it comes to battle for control of the streets. To put it simply, I don't think the government should repress them but I got no problem with anti-fascists fighting them.

    I'm still with your thinking on this, Harakaat, and my answer to your very pertinent question is "No".  And I really do hope they were an opposing football gang as King Tut has suggested because I still think that if Tommy's account is true it puts the asailants into the same category as I put Pak Falcons - stupid PR agents of Islamism - with added violence.
