    Rihanna stealing from MIA

As Ive already mentioned I absolutely fucking hate female rappers. But I decided to give MIA some listen. Then my perception of her changed when I watched this song. I think the song she re-made is one that originally is a tamil folk(gaana) classic. Its like the tune that every rowdy girl dances/sings to. Cant really remember or tell, but it sounds like Ive heard it before. Especially the "boys there" part. I always hated gaana and urumee. I give props to MIA for staying true to her roots, revitalizing an old traditional tune and her original style.

The chorus, the animation and the song title all seem copied. Without a doubt.

MIA's fashion style is interesting and so original too.

Interesting topic, and I've never come across this particular example before.   I see what you mean.

The first example that came to mind is Craig David ripping off one of my favourite artists, Jon B.

    Craig David - Hidden Agenda

Bitterly disappointing given that David's producer is Artful Dodger's Mark Hill who I have massive respect for.

@Passingaround: you do realize there are dope female rappers that are as good as the male ones such as : Queen Latifah,Lauren Hill,Da Brat,Lil Kim and Even Missy Elliot. Right?

    Lauren Hill

Speaking of thievery, Lauryn took full credit for her seminal album when it was in fact shaped by numerous musicians, writers and producers.

    Great article on the masterpiece:

MIA is a rapper, and she does seemingly "rap" in even the posted song. She rhymes in time to the beat and the beat is typical for rap. And talk about missing the point.

Interesting including John Legend(wow, look likes he has been around for a long time), but still she is one of the best female rappers we have seen in Hip-hop, i mean you cant compare any recent mainstream female rapper to her, at least you gotta give her a due even for Fugee-la album.

     Cheesy

Nicki Minaj is hotter than Lil Kim, i cant argue on that, though i wish Lil Kim never bitch about her copying her style, she should have gone to Hollywood and start acting.

This is already mentioned in the Nostalgia thread but another major disappointment for me is Jam & Lewis stealing J Dilla's beat for Janet's Got 'til It's Gone.

Gentlemen, I feel your sentiments and do not wish to persuade you otherwise. But it must be said in all honesty that God may have created both men and women equally for the most part but with two exceptions however. Namely not being holy prophets and A-list rappers.

Miseducation is still her baby. It's her testimony, and one of the finest and most genuine life testimonies ever expressed though music in my opinion.

Sure, if you're willing to throw out one of the undisputable best lyricists and vocalists because of bickering over production credits on a few of her tracks.

Queen Latifa seems to be homosexual. Missy Elliot seems to have stripped herself of all her feminity to be good.

Female rappers can never put out Liquid Swords or 36 Chambers or Illmatic.

Rap is on all time low. The standards have dropped dramatically. Its fucking depressing. Music should be enjoyable. I shouldnt have to get upset more often than feeling positively entertained.

Female rappers are there to show the weak male rappers. When I try to judge how wack a hyped rapper is, I just got to set them side by side with white female rappers. They are the bottom of the barrel.

Or maybe you just have a bias against the idea that women can rap which makes it easy for you to dismiss even those that are good?

I wonder if this isn't that same phenomena associated with those who say women are not as funny as men, in that the woman saying the same things as a man, being blunt, rude, saying unfeminine things, is not as socially acceptable, so rather than enjoying her jokes, people are put off, whereas if a man does it, people laugh because it's ok for men to say those things.  It seems to fit when you look at it like that.

I mean Jean Grae for instance is an awesome rapper, writes all her own stuff, would you find her 'better' if she was a guy?

^^ I'm sorry but in this she sounds even fucking smoother than half the A list male rappers out there right now, but of course like with females in comedy, you can only have your token female rappers, and the really good ones just don't get the recognition they would.

There are some great female rappers out there, but passingaround is correct that none of them as of yet can top the best male rappers. I mean maybe there is one out there, it's not like I've listened to all the music out there but just saying based on what I've heard.

You are talking about Hardcore which is a subgenre of Rap music itself and like Q said just because it hasnt been done, it means it cant be done, unless you want to twist your argument to another angle Tongue

Considering music taste is totally subjective, the whole 'no woman as great as of yet' is not a fixed thing Tongue

and I like some rap, just not all of it since most of it is shite.

AAaaaaand I still think that I am right and that thise whole women not as good yet thing has to echo the whole female comedians thing.  Just makes too much sense, and I'm such a G with this shit I just know I'm right.
