  • Best advice you've received
     OP - June 21, 2012, 02:08 PM

Advice can be about anything from finances to relationships to the road to ex-theism or just advice in general. You can even include stuff that has been posted here from other members. More than one piece of advice is welcomed if you have more to share. I'll start.

The best piece of advice I've ever received has been the catalyzing statement that marked my journey to really finding out who I was outside of being the shy and quiet one and what I was capable of: "Never be afraid to ask for anything. The worst thing anyone can ever do is say 'no'".

    Now you, lovelies.  Smiley

That IS really good advice. My sister gave me a book once, "How to make people say Yes" (or something). It had advice like that, on how to ask questions and stuff.

Ummmmmmmmmmm. I don't know if this has been the best advice, but it's the one I remember most: When I was 10-ish, I was asking my mum about funerals and all that stuff, cuz I had read Gone With the Wind and in it Scarlett O'Hara has to be in mourning for like a YEAR. Anyways, she told me, "Muslims don't intensely mourn for more than three days." And I asked why, and she said, "Because a person shouldn't be in heavy grief for a long time. They can be sad, but they can't let that stop their actual day-to-day living."

So I dunno, that wasn't advice per se, but I think it was smart. I could analyse it, but I won't. Tongue

i have a few ... well alot.. but here's a few i repeat to myself...

*never accept a "no" from someone who doesn't have the authority to say "yes"*

*if you have something important to say, don't shout it over others, wait until they stop interrupting you and start again*

*sometimes apologies, and excuses are not needed for true closure, and only open more wounds... *

*when someone disagrees with you... don't assume you're wrong.. hold your ground a little longer and think things through*

    Omelette Advice

Best omelette advice I received was don't try and be flashy like a chef. No need to flip it in the pan. Just heat up the grill, and place it under when the underside is cooked. Be generous with the olive oil so it slides out of the pan afterwards. And unless you're going for the pull Spanish, just use one ingredient. Onion omelette, ham or salami omelette, for example.

Was also told that every man should know how to cook an omelette to impress a lady with breakfast the morning after the first time you sleep together.

Whaaaaaat. I've always used vegetable oil when cooking eggs in a pan but if billy says it, it must be true.

For those who have a business oriented mind like me, if a brilliant idea pops into your head,ACT ON IT. Dont procastinate or even waste a second,DO IT even if you are becoming reluctant otherwise negative thoughts would start seeping into your mind and would kill your motivation.

"You can't convince them. They are not able to accept that you rejected their religion on evidences, because if they were to accept that, then that means that their religion CAN be rejected by an intelligent person on the basis of evidence. They can't allow themselves to believe that because they need their religion to be true. They need to believe that there is substantial evidence for their religion.

Their world would fall apart if they realized it wasn't as they think it is. Too much is at stake for them. It is very very hard to lay your religious beliefs on the line, TRULY look at them from a critical distance, because you have so much tied up with that religion. It gives you emotional support, it forms your entire worldview, it is part of your self-identity and it is the most important element of your life. It is frightening to even consider that it may be false. So people are not able to see the evidence you put before them, because they are not looking at it objectively at all.

You can only have any effect with your evidences on those who are truly willing to look at them with true objectivity. But that person is rare. They are out there, obviously you were able to do it. So you can only do so much in convincing people."

yes, this is indeed the best advice you have ever heard, and so fucking true.  too many men think the penetrative sex is how she will orgasm, but most women don't orgasm from that and that alone.

Advice I was given very recently - don't judge yourself so harshly for having children who very rarely respect the rules, it just means they are rebellious like you, that they question like you, and that they are fighters like you. lots of people blindly raise a new generation of blindly obedient children, if anything be proud that your children question all rules, including your own.  It means they are thinking and learning, not just following.

Inhale the good shit, exhale the bullshit.

Guys, take it from me : dont constantly jerk off while watching porn until your dick goes limp or sore otherwise you may lose an erection in the middle of action with a hottie someday and it wont cooperate. It can be embarrassing.
