Murray ain't going to do it is he? Bottled it a bit there when he had a chance to break and serve out for the second set, Federer showed his class!

Hey Paloma, thanks for the heads up, never followed the Tour de France before but was aware this English guy might win it, will keep an eye out  Smiley

Well done Federer, you're a true champion.

Poor Murray got so emotional in his speech, I felt really sorry for him. He was very gracious in defeat.

Yeah he was very emotional. Got to feel for the guy. He just came up against the greatest player of all time, winning his seventh Wimbledon final. He had the game, he had the experience. Hope Murray wins at least one grand slam in his career.

Finally: something from Murray in a final. I'm sick of seeing him completely choking, and then having to justify his presence in the final to my friends, who all happen to be Nadal and Federer fans.

Although I still feel he choked to a lesser degree, I'm happy with his progress. Next stage: I want him to produce his very best tennis during crucial games like yesterdays - as Nadal, Djokavic and Federer can do on a regular basis. Yesterday's performance was great, but I know he has more still.

    Hi

Wanted to go for years. One of the most amazing experiences of my life and nothing at all like watching it on TV. And what an especially great final to have a chance to see.

What was your view like, were you up in the heavens? Shame Murray couldn't have won but still a massive occasion to have been at!

It's actually a lot smaller than I thought it would be. Which is a good thing because I suppose that way there aren't really any bad seats. We were opposite the umpire, just above middle, just towards one corner. I wouldn't have liked to be much closer. Maybe a little more central. But I'm not complaining. It was close enough to see fluff fly off the ball.

I must confess I was cheering for Federer rather than Murray. Such an incredible athlete and such a pleasure to watch move.

I've played a little bit of tennis (I'm more of a squash gal) and I thought I knew what it was like to play the game, but what those guys do out there is something else entirely. It's like they are physically pummeling each other, like powerful warriors smashing each other with swords. They have such an awesome physical presence on the court. And the volume of it. I think that's what struck me most, the breath-taking, air-shattering noise of it all. The sound of physical exertion. It's so hot and exciting.

You make it sound amazing. Its like how watching football on TV doesn't reflect the velocity and scope and intricacies and skill and speed of watching it from the terraces.

Well, I dunno about religious, but it was definitely ecstatic, climatic, euphoric, orgasmic and lots of other delicious things.

Ishina, that essay that GRB links to is a really great piece of sports writing by the late American novelist David Foster Wallace, one of the most talented writers of his generation. Its a wonderful piece of writing, do bookmark it and read it some time, I read it a few years ago Smiley
