    Anyway.....

I think the Olympics is just the right length. Been great, just over two weeks of intense sport, you get the fix, the enjoyment but then it doesn't drag on too long, people don't get Olympic fatigue.

Seriously though what should really really be in the Olympics. Sometimes I think it should just be track and field. Starting that as a base- all the combat sports- weightlifting, swimming, gymnastics, horses maybe not cycles, sure there are others.

Ok, re reading my comment - it does sound creepy, I didn't mean that 'you'd thought he named his daughter because she is was I said - that was my views on Rhianna (vis a via the whole adultification of children)

You 'love' the idea because you think Rihanna is dope, no denying that either.

Seeing Jan Zelezny, Sergei Bubka and Frankie Fredericks again was probably just as exciting to me as the highlights of the competitions.

Prolly. Though in Japan the World Cup definitely meant more than the Olympics - even before they won.

Hmm, I was actually being sarcastic. It doesn't seem to me that the World Cup has diminished status because of the Olympic Games.

Not only Olympic Champion, but he's also the only person to ever defeat The Cube. And did it with 6 lives left.

    This guy is the best.

One of the nicest stories I heard is that Paula Radcliffe paid for him to take driving lessons when he was 17 so that he could get to his training which was miles away from where he lived.

Even though I understand that the 10,000m and 5,000m are strategic races where you play the long game, I was still a little anxious when he was trailing at the beginning or hustling for position near the front. Then he just shifts up a gear, takes the lead like a boss. Magic.

Impossible. At a competitive level, training must be highly specialised for respective disciplines. Sprinters are built for short bursts of explosive power and fast energy delivery (sugars), which is a heavier muscle load. This heavier mass also helps with momentum. But it's too heavy to carry long distance (heavy bodies require more effort to carry long distances, of course). Furthermore, long distance running takes the body further than burning sugars into the stage of burning fats and muscle. That's why long distance runners tend to be slight of build with lean muscle. Long distance running would eat away at that essential muscle architecture that gives sprinters their short distance power. And conversely, bulking up for short distance power would diminish long distance performance.

Two females accompanied the marathon winners for the last medal ceremony, in purple suit with orange sash, one of them was outwardly Muslim by dint of her headgear. Nice touch. Lol

Seeing Annie Lennox was great. What's Russell Brand doing there? Yes it is a bit Saturday night on itv, though more family friendly than an appearance of Rihanna on X factor. I kids ye.

"Corporate rock" is what I call it. Drag out all the aging rockers that the current crop of business execs used to listen to when they were teenagers.

Mind you, the flaming angel wench and supporting dancers were great. I can just imagine all the wankers pointing at it and fuming about kufrs and Hell. Cheesy "See, they even know where they're going!"

Also the extinguishing bit was very well done. I liked the way the "flower" opened up before all the torches went out. And you can never go wrong with a good fireworks display.

Congrats to all you Pommy bastards. You did a great job this time around. yes

Looking forward to Rio now. Just found out the women will get to race 49er's in Rio. About time too. 49er's rock. They've retuned the rig so they will go just as fast with a lighter crew. These things are as fast as the 18 foot skiffs and great to watch.

i forgot how bad the spice girls were, but seeing boris johnson boogying to them was funny as fuck. but yeah the john lennon bit was just miles ahead of everything.

my fave sport is football, but this for me was the best sporting event ever. a lot was made about the 'legacy' the games would leave. there's a chance in the end that this will just have been another tag-line but i hope it doesn't work out that way. if it can really inspire a generation to get into sports, even just as a hobby, how fantastic would that be?

mo farrah has to be the stand-out star british star of the games. i've heard most track and field experts say that when he crossed the line in the 5000 that was the greatest moment in british athletics history. this guy who's as much british as he is muslim could be a massive inspiration to young british muslim kids - just think, a somali-born british muslim now the national hero of the moment. i think in general every young kid will have a hero at the games that they can relate too.
