  • Amir Khan - a good boxer, but not on the elite level
     OP - August 05, 2012, 08:35 PM

I've been reading alot of negative comments on Khan's shock loss to Danny Garcia, even I tweed him a negative comment just after he had lost, I was pissed off with him. However, I've changed my mind on him, I think he is a good boxer, just not on the elite level and that is only because he cannot take a punch due to the fact he hangs his chin out. His fighting style on the inside is also suspect however that can be improved what can't be improved is his chin and the ability to take a punch, and I think this is due to the fact that he had a lot of fights as an armature where you wear headgear so punches landed to the head don't have the same potency, this tends to make fighters who make a transition to professional level vulnerable to a knock out of course this is the simplified version.

A truly elite fighter in my opinion is Floyd Mayweather, I don't even think Manny can beat him either, I think Manny is overrated to be honest he just does not have the same fire in him as he did when he was fighting the likes of Eric Morales and Barerra now he is just into some kind of crazy religious nonsense.

What are your thoughts guys? Anyone a boxing fan?

I always thought of him as a good boxer but I never thought of him being the Floyd or Pacman type.

Gamboa is good though, that guy has a lot of potential.

p.s: big boxing fan but I love Kickboxing as well, I can't say I love Boxing more than Kickboxing or Kickboxing more than boxing, I simply love both of them.

I have a huge soft spot for Khan. Good man, from my neck of the woods, generous with his time and money, good ambassador to young underprivileged kids.

I'm not sure what he can do now. Whatever he does, it needs to be soon. I dunno what is going on in the gym, but it is clearly wrong. He needs massive changes. He is so undisciplined. He needs putting in his place. His defensive game seemed to be improving not so long ago, but now he seems to be reckless and exposed, easily exploited.

Maybe he's got the wrong people around him. I'm sure they are all great, but maybe they are just not right for Khan. Roach seemed to have him under control. Dunno how he managed to let that slip away.

Too fucking busy, and vice versa.

I think you are writing him off way too soon. Khan has all the ingredients to be an elite boxer but what he needs is to adjust his style to accomodate that suspect chin of his. He's just too wild and gets carried away with unnecessary exchanges, he needs to know how to control the pace of the fight and improve his defence.

So he's split from Roach. I reckon that's the best thing for him right now. Best thing for Roach too.

Given up on both a long time ago. So that'd be a bit of a freakshow in my book. One has never had a chin, and the other regularly morphs into a coked-out cheeseburger who likes a drink.

Not familiar with the current boxers at this moment since i lost my interest in boxing after Lennox Lewis retired, i wasnt big fan anyway but i watched most of the Tyson's fights after he got out of prison, and Lewis as well.

Apparently Amir Khan was jumped by these guys because he went to a dinner with British soldiers.

Khan is daring to be great with his next fight against Canelo.
Khan said God is on his side, but God rarely turns out to be such a fantastic team mate.
